    Dear forum members,

I am reaching switzerland in the last week of July. we are a family of 4 with 2 kids aged 4 and 11.

After 1 day in Zurich and 3.5 days in Lucerne, I will be left with 2.5 days in Montreux.

My planned itinerary for Montreux is –

Day 5: Reaching Montreux by 5.30 pm by Golden pass, Check-in and then local sightseeing on Promenade and Chateau.

Day 6: Am confused whether I should visit Zermatt with Matterhorn or should I Instead go to Gstaad/ Les Diablerets with Glacier 3000. Will have already visited Mount Rigi, Titlis and Jungfarujoch by then. (Hopefully with good weather). So am not interested in any more mountain trips. More inclined towards experiencing a quiet village life and scenic beauty.

Day 7: Trip to Broc Fabrique via Montbovon for Maison Cailler chocolate factory followed by Cheese factory demo at Gruyeres and a trip to the chateau there. Evening to Vevey/ Lausanne (either)

Day 8: Check out early morning and go to Geneva. Local sightseeing (Advise sought) with a train trip to Zurich in the afternoon to reach Zurich by 7 pm for the departure flight.

Please guide. Alternate suggestions highly appreciated. Also, the best place to buy chocolates, Lindt or some other.

    Thanks a million in advance.

We are just back from Cully and one of the things we loved was taking the train to Nyon and then the boat to Yvoire on the other side of the lake in France, it is a stunning medieval French village and very picturesque. We visited Lausanne as well and we met friends there who showed us around as they live near, quite a difficult place to visit we thought as it seems to go up hill in several layers. Took a boat trip to Chillon too and really enjoyed that and we loved walking along the promenade st Vevey.

Hi Anup and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Day 6: If you are interested in a quiet village and no mountains are interesting then neither Zermatt (https://www.myswissalp s.com/zermatt) nor Gstaad (https://www.myswissalp s.com/gstaad) make a lot of sense for you. But Broc and Gruyeres will give you a small town feel and you might enjoy a visit to Zermatt and you can get a look at the Matterhorn without going into the mountains sometimes.

As Magicden notes, a lake trip on Lake Geneva is a nice option as well. https://www.myswissalp s.com/boatlakegeneva

For ideas in Geneva look here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/geneva/activitie s and for chocolate options, you won’t have a hard time finding it.I know of some stores in Zurich but aren’t familiar with the other towns options. But just going to grocery stores like Migros and Coop you can find a lot of chocolate!

Geneva to Zurich airport will take you about 3 to 3.5 hours. Find train departure schedules here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable (SBB timetable)
