    Hi,

I’m travelling to Switzerland in Sept/Oct for 2 weeks and planning on purchasing a 2nd class 15 day Rail Pass. I plan to travel on the Bernina Express, Glacier Express and the Golden Pass from Interlaken to Montreux. For these trips, I will likely upgrade to 1st class.

    My questions are

    1. how long before the trip can I purchase the upgrade? Can I do it online before arriving in Switzerland from Australia?

    2. I want to reserve the VIP seats for the Golden Pass Express trip. Do I have to pay to upgrade to 1st class first, and then pay for the VIP seat reservation? Or does the VIP seat reservation cost include the upgrade from the 2nd class Rail Pass?

    Thanks in advance.

    Colin

    Welcome to MySwissAlps Colin!

    1. The SBB app allows this. I’ve not tried myself but there’s a description here. You can also buy the upgrade in Switzerland at any staffed train station. Upgrades do not sell out. Only seat reservations can sell out. By the way, if you spend CHF 153 extra you can buy a 1st class Swiss Travel Pass and enjoy 1st class all 15 days instead of these 3 trips only. No upgrade tickets required in this case. Just a thought!

    2. Reservations and upgrades are separate products. When you buy them and in which order does not matter, as long as you have both when boarding the train. Please see myswissalps.com/golden pass/tickets.

    Hi Harrysimi,

Yes, the chocolate factory is included in the Swiss Travel Pass.

Please post further questions in a new thread. This one is for Colin and it’s about a different topic. Thanks!

    Hi again,

I read the seat reservation for the VIP seats for the Golden Pass between Zweissimenn and Montreux can’t be booked until 90 days before travel. I’ve tried a number of links to see how the process works, but I can’t seem to find a way to actually select a seat. The only website I could find which shows the layout of the train carriage with the seats for selection don’t seem to show a carriage with the mentioned 8 VIP seats at one end of the train.

    Can you please assist?

    Thanks again

    Colin

    Hi Colin,

For the VIP seats you need the link under “More information” on myswissalps.com/golden pass/tickets. It does show the VIP seats, but only for the Zweisimmen-Montreux leg, and only for the few trains that offers such seats (e.g. the one at 12:25). If the seats are gray they are already booked. If they’re green you can reserve them. You can already book for October.

    Hi,

I wish to know if normal trains and Golden pass trains use the same route from Interlaken to Montreux or two different routes ?

You’re welcome! Just make sure you travel via Zweisimmen, which is the Golden Pass route. Have fun!

that means normal trains don’t pass through Zweisimmen when you travel from Interlaken to Montreux. Right ?

No, it means there are two routes: one via Bern and one via Zweisimmen. Both have normal trains but the route via Zweisimmen is called Golden Pass and is more scenic.

I have slip disc problem. Is Alpine coaster in Les Diablerets (G staad) recommended for me ?

It’s mentioned that it’s not recommended for those with health issues .

    Hi rrtantry,

You may want to consult your doctor – I wouldn’t want to say one way or the other.
Here is a video of the trip!

    Hi rrtantry,

No, you do not need reservations. All you need is the Swiss Travel Pass.
