    Greetings from Singapore!

My plan was to visit zermatt for a nite on 13th Nov to 14th Nov thereafter to Interlaken.

I have booked a train ticket from Milan to Visp on 13th Nov unfortunately I can’t find any trains from Visp to Zermatt on the same day. It seems like there is some constructions going on.

Can someone please advise me how to reach Zermatt? The SBB app shows Visp to Tasch station by bus? Unfortunately there is only 1 bus at night. I need to reach Zermatt by noon as I have also booked the Gonograt Railway train.

Please help. I am totally lost now.

Last resort is to cancel my trip and stay longer in Interlaken. That will be a pity.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Donjoe1000,

Yes, it seems the train service between Visp and Zermatt won’t be running on those dates. According to the timetable, there is a replacement bus operating every half hour until 10pm. The bus gets you to Täsch. From Täsch, it’s just a short ride by train to Zermatt. What time is your arrival in Visp?

    Regards,

    Anna

Yes, here is the statement on MGB’s own website:

    Visp – Täsch – Visp, 24.10 – 20.11.2022, bus replacement

Due to construction work, buses with disabled access will run instead of the train (no WC / very limited bicycle transport). These run according to the timetable. http://www.sbb.ch/en

I have checked the times – there will be a bus every half hour Visp – Taesch , first bus from Visp 06.08, last bus from Visp 21.08. There is one train late at night (22.41 from Visp)

By the way, I don’t believe that you need to reserve a specific train service on the Gornergrat railway

Thank you Anna for your help.

I am departing from Milan at 720am and will reach Visp at 920am. My initial plan is to catch the 9.41am or 10.08am train to Zermatt.

Thank you 1960man for the info.

Can I know where to buy the bus tickets? Seems like SBB website do not have it except the time table.

Any websites that I can purchase or I need to buy from the counter? Will it be difficult to get thr tickets since Zermatt is a popular destination?

    Hi Donjoe1000,

You can purchase the Visp – Zermatt ticket from the train station (either from the counter or ticket machine). Alternatively, you can buy a point-to-point ticket online: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland

    Thanks Anna.

Seems like there is no bus tickets. They are selling train tickets but there are no trains from Visp to Zermatt on 13th Nov.

    My apologies fornthe repeated question.

I need to check where to buy bus tickets.

    Hi Donjoe1000,

No worries. Switzerland has an integrated transport system so the tickets you purchase from the train station or the SBB website are also valid on the bus. You can find useful information here: http://www.myswissalps.com/bus/tickets

I am not able to purchase from SBB website too.

Where can I buy the bus tickets in Visp?

    Hi Donjoe1000,

You don’t have to buy bus tickets for Visp-Zermatt. The bus counts as a replacement for the normal train service. So you can just buy train tickets. You can do so at the Visp railway station or online. There are several options listed at https://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland/price.

Will you be using a rail pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses)? This mostly saves lots of money compared to buying normal tickets. You can find out if that’s the case for your trip here: https://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass. If you have a rail pass, you can get a discounted tickets for your trips in Switzerland, including Visp-Zermatt. And if you end up choosing the Swiss Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass), you won’t be needing tickets for trains, buses and boats at all.

You have received the information you need from others now so I won’t repeat it, but I thought you might value some general information:

All across Europe, when a railway is closed for maintenance, rebuilding or modernisation work, railway companies organise replacement services by bus. The buses are simply there because a train can’t run, so travel on the replacement bus service is always covered by your existing ticket – as it is the company’s duty to provide you with a service.

Thank you 1960man for your help.

Thank you everyone. Greatly appreciative with the response and help from all here.

My apologies for not being clear enough.

As at now I do not have any ticket from Visp to Zermatt so I cant get up the bus without a train ticket or even a bus ticket. Understand that the rail is under construction hence bus is being used.

Where can I buy the bus tickets? SBB is not selling either.

    Hi Donjoe1000,

If the bus is a replacement for a train, you have to buy the train ticket. You can do so at the Visp railway station or online. There are several options listed at http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland/price. If they do not work for that day for some reason, but you can still see a running train/bus in the SBB timetable, you can buy your ticket at the train station in Visp on the day of your travel.

    Hi All,

Just a quick check. SBB showed the bus schedule and I assumed I can only purchase the bus ticket at the counter or machine.

Does that meant that I will not be getting Super Saver deal? The price will be much higher?

Train tickets are valid on the bus, the bus substitutes the train. All tickets which would be accepted on the train are also accepted on the bus, so are Super Saver tickets, if available.

    Thanks Trainliner.

I can’t purchase the bus tickets. Neither do I have the train tickets. I will be traveling from Milan to Visp. Initially wanted to stay in Visp for a night but changed my mind.

I guess I have to purchase the Visp to Zermatt bus tickets at the counter then.

    Hi Donjoe1000,

You don’t need bus tickets. Bus tickets should only be bought for routes that are normally serviced by a bus. Visp-Zermatt is normally serviced by a train, so you need train tickets. The bus Visp-Zermatt is just a temporary substitute for the train. You can buy any train ticket for the date and time on which you want to travel, and you can get it either at the Visp railway station or online in advance (see https://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland/price and https://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy/price). As Trainliner explained, these train tickets are valid for the replacement bus. If a Supersaver ticket (https://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland) happens to be available for your specific travel date and time, then yes, you can use that for the replacement bus too.

It may help to understand that most routes in Switzerland are serviced either by train, or by bus. So a bus service for what’s normally a train line is only created if there are temporary (maintenance) works making the normal rail route unavailable. You’ll find explanation in the 1st paragraph at http://www.myswissalps.com/train/practical/howtotravel.

Thank you Arno for your detailed explanations.

    Greatly appreciated.

For some strange reasons, I am not able to purchase any tickets at all. Using 20th of October 2022 as an example, after keying in Visp to Zermatt the bus schedules are reflected but when I try to select ticket the following message appeared-

Connection offers failed. Please try again or contact your local SBB ticket machine or counter.

    Error code sbb/zvs/reise/4406.

I can’t use my departure date of 13th Nov as it is more than 60 days travel date.

I have tried numerous times and the same message appeared. I am just worried that I can’t get any tickets at all be it the bus or train.

My apologies for the repeated question.
