    Hi guys,

End of March we’ll be visiting switzerland for a week. After landing in Zurich we want to head to Wengen which will be our base for either 5 or 6 nights depending on if we continue our travelling directly after landing or will rest for a night and leave in the morning. From Wengen we would like to goto Interlaken, lucerne, grindelwald, murren and 1 more place each in 1 day. Our 2 year old will be travelling with us so want to keep each day light.

    *which pass should we prefer?

*what weather conditions should we expect in such time period.

*how touristy or busy this time of the year usually is.

    *are these places stroller friendly?

    TIA guys. Much appreciated.

Without question for an admirably focussed trip as you seem to have in mind the Berner Oberland Pass will be perfect.

    http://www.myswissalps.com/re gionalpassberneseoberl and/validity

To get from Zurich best bet will be a Saver day pass and best route to take would be the direct intercity train route Zurich – Bern – Interlaken.

Once you are settled in in Wengen, the Berner Oberland Pass will take you to all the places you mention

Having travelled the area many times over 58 years, I advise: don’t ignore the lower altitude areas such as the Emmental valley (of cheese fame) . the railway runs from Bern to Luzern and the valley is architypal Swiss territory – farmland and big farm building, and lots of level walks perfect for a stroller.

End of March the lower altitude areas will be early spring like . In general you will be in the low season which is not a bad thing .There might still be snow at higher altitudes such as above Murren

Hi Samreenusuf and welcome to MySwissAlps!

The Regional Pass Bernese Oberland can be a good idea in the summer for sure: http://www.myswissalps.com/re gionalpassberneseoberl and but you’ll want to check the “where it’s valid” tab on this link to be sure it covers all your trips (or mostly covers). IE it covers you to Luzern but no mountains around the area (if you think you might visit one).

Another option could be the Swiss Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass) but to know for sure, you’ll need to plan out each day’s itinerary and compare the 2 passes (what they cover and their costs) to know which is best.

We have a web page here to help you do this: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass

Read about weather conditions/what to expect here:

March is still ski season still in the mountains and Wengen should still be somewhat busy with skiers. Hiking will be limited due to snow levels – towns are stroller friendly and accessing most mountains as well but it gets trickier on hikes/walking trails at higher elevations due to snow.

Thanks for such prompt response everyone. As you all mentioned Berner Oberland Pass would be ideal. On the website it says it’s valid from (May to October) that leaves me with a bit of confusion and as per my understanding it doesn’t cover the places I mentioned in itinerary or maybe these places are known with different region names? Confused

Just to be clear does it cover the routes from wegen-Interlaken ost-Schynige Platte-Lauterbrunnen-Murren-Kleine Scheidegg-Grindelwald OR i should just go with the regional pass and explore places that are covered by it and it’ll give me similar sense of beauty?

    Thanks in advance everyone!

Explored jungfrau travel pass but it shows dates from 13 April onwards only. Seems like end March isn’t a good time for this region. Can you guys kindly suggest a better time to visit this region? We can be flexible from mid March to April end.

Also does each place like Murren itself or grindelwald require per day each trip or more places canbe enjoyed in 1 day.

Should we add Zermatt or it’ll be too much? Any different pass needed for Zermett route.

If we want to add any 1 day trip to golden/bernina/glacier express. Which one is more suitable scenery and travel wise or on the contrary is it better to do direct trips from interlaken to montreux and lucerne or better to take golden pass? Will it be too ambitious in 6 days!

Sorry for so many questions, but thank you in anticipation!

    Hi Samreenusuf,

The Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland and the Jungfrau Travel Pass are summer passes. In winter there is the Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrauhikingsledgingpa ss. Mid March is still winter and could be perfect if that’s what you want. It really depends on your expectations. If you prefer to hike in high terrain then summer (from mid June) would be better.

The Jungfrau region is small so you can visit multiple places in one day, but depending on what exactly you’re going to do: http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrauregion. Just exploring Mürren can be done in 30 minutes but if you visit Schilthorn too and do some walking, it can be a full day.

For the scenic train rides, please see http://www.myswissalps.com/ac tivities/scenictrips/t rain for maps, route information and more details. Only the Golden Pass is close to where you’re going. The other require at least one night in another town to do it properly.

Yes, I’d agree, if you stay close to Wengen the Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass is the best option. But if you venture out beyond that area then the Swiss Travel Pass as I mentioned is a good option (plus covers your travel to and from Zurich airport).
