I would greatly appreciate some advice on how to travel from Wengen to Obersteinberg in August, 2015. There are 3 of us, non-hikers but eager and in good shape. Would like to know options, if any, that might shorten the trip and the total time required. Thank you for any assistance.

The shortest way there is via a steep trail up from Stechelberg. Experienced alpine hikers make the trek in approx 2 hours. Eager and in good shape travelers without alpine hiking experience should plan on double that time. Trail leaves from directly behind the Stechelberg Inn, which is reachable via bus from Lauterbrunnen. There is no running water nor electricity at the inn.

Kim: thank you so much;seems a tad ambitious for us. Will find some scenic alternatives.

The region is full of them.

Lots of information in this series of posts: http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/tips-about-wengen-and-the-jungfrau-region-by-kim. See the “Easy Hikes” section.
