Are cable cars /cogwheels running in early May in the Berner Oberland/Gimmelwald area to help us access hiking trails?

    Thank you.

    Hi LouLou –

    Welcome to my Swiss Alps.

    Use the timetable:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

If you are unsure of the station name to put into the timetable, use this map, invoking station names via the menu:

    map.search.ch/?poi=bergbahn,haltestel le,zug

In general, there will be little or no cableway service then. but if your type of service qualifies as inter city, it runs all year.

The hiking trails at higher elevations will all still be closed in early May. Even Pension Gimmelwald will still be closed. You will need to do your walking down in the valleys.

    Hi LouLou,

you could select lower elevation routes if snow doesn’t allow for the high elevation hikes. You will find a list of hiking trails here: http://www.myswissalps.com/hi king. Use the “Terrain type” filter (Valley for example).
