    Hi Anuja..

In addition to Ildiko’s perceptive comments, I’ll add that it would help a lot when we try to to answer you if we knew when you are traveling, and, if your entire trip is contained within the 4 days mentioned in your title. Or, do you have four days leftover from your “blitzkrieg.”

Hi Anuja123! You’d best study the links provided by Ildiko, and see what appeals to you. There are many, many options :-). But how about a stay in Zermatt, if that’s what you’re interested in? You could easily spend a couple of days there, enjoying cable car trips and hikes: http://www.myswissalps.com/ze rmatt. The train ride from the Jungfrau area to Zermatt is beautiful, especially if you pick the Lötschberger RegioExpress trains passing Kandersteg and Goppenstein (enter one of those as via-stations when planning your trip in the SBB timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable). If you’re very fond of scenic rides, you could end your stay with a Glacier Express ride to Chur and then moving on to Zurich: http://www.myswissalps.com/gl acierexpress.

    Hi.

    1) Is there likelihood of seeing snow peaks from Zermatt town itself ? If yes, then is there a particular area in Zermatt that I need to book a hotel , to enable this ?

    2) Does one usually do one or the other , between cable car to Klein Matterhorn and Gornergrat ?

    Hi Annuja –

You certainly could stay in Zermatt, in addition to Wengen, as Annika suggests. Both are beautiful high Alpine areas, with the Jungfrau Region being larger, and surrounded by the even Larger Bernese Oberland Region. Thus, the Bernese Oberland overall has a greater variety of sights and activities, the two large lakes being one example.

In addition, there are bad weather options, such as Bern, close by. Zermatt is a bit further from the main part of Switzerland, and thus bad weather options can be further away. With 2 nights in Wengen, you certainly will not have a chance to explore even a fraction of the options. You can meet your stated goals, but you will have little time for each, and if weather on high is cloudy, the mountain journeys will be possible, but much less enjoyable.

Both regions offer easy hikes as well as more difficult ones. This one, above Wengen, is easy and spectacular, and I’ve attached a couple of pictures.

Another region is high on our list for first time visitors with limited time, because of the even greater variety of options, and the possibility of sometimes having a different weather pattern than than the two high alpine regions. That is Luzern ( German spelling, which you will see on the signs there).

    http://www.myswissalps.com/lu cerne

They include a beautiful large lake, a really nice old town with special sights ( and, a fair number of tourists), and cultural activities if they interest you. Hiking around the area offers a variety of trails, including easy ones. The city and the region are quite different from the two high Alpine regions noted above. I’ve attached a couple of pictures from and of Luzern, as well as one from nearby Pilatus.

Overall 2 bases in your stay is comfortable, and 3 in your stay is a bit much, but not impossible. Since you are raveling without children, the process of changing bases can be simpler, and, the journey itself can be part of the tourist experience. Annika gave an example , in the Lötschberger train option between Spiez and Brig.

If I were planning a trip from scratch, with your preferences, I’d go immediately to Luzern upon arrival., stay two nights, then go on to the other two regions.

Luzern is only an hour and 10 minutes or so from the Zürich airport by a couple of trains per hour, all of which pass through Zürich main station. The one with no changes of train is best, at 0915, 1015, 1115, etc. There is a good food court to wait in , just above the train station, if you would like a coffee, tea or a bite to eat after your arrival. The connection at Zürich main station can be a bit more complex if you take the ones at xx18 and xx46. Often, the arrival track is on a different level from the departure track. It is the only really big station on several levels in Switzerland, however, quick connections can still be made with a bit of effort even if the arrival track is on a different level from the departure track. There is good signage, but you are better off with limited luggage. Of course, if you miss a connection on busy routes such as that one, another train will be along shortly.

Then, I’d spend two nights in Luzern ( you could still do that on the 10th), three in the Jungfrau region, and two at Zermatt. Or, visit Zematt by day day trip from the Jungfrau region, or make it a one night stop.

That is only one person’s opinion, of course, and you’ll enjoy the sights and the trip however you split it up.
