What to wear hiking in Jungfrau Region in August

I’m sorry, I know this has probably been discussed a million times! We’ll be doing some long, high elevation hiking in a week (Schilthorn, First, etc). We’re avid hikers and I prefer to hike in shorts and bring more layers for the torso (jacket, sweater, rain jacket). Is it not wise to wear shorts? Does it stay pretty chilly at those elevations?

No problem when it is sunny.

If you get caught in clouds, fog, rain, shorts are not so good.

It snowed at Männlichen ( about 2300 meters) in August last year. (Or, maybe the year before).
