    Hello!

I will be coming into Lucern around 3 pm on a Sunday. I am renting an apartment and need to go grocery shopping.

What grocery stores are open on a Sunday? I have read many are closed?

    thank you

Almost all stores are closed on Sundays (everywhere).

But stores at train stations will be open. So head to Lucerne train station and visit the Coop or Migros.

Migros and Co-op in Luzern main station are both open until 22.00 daily.

I have a nostalgic preference for Migros (despite living in the UK due to family connections I’ve been going to Migros for 57 years…) but my wife prefers Co-Op!

Supermarkets in railway stations and petrol stations are a comparitively new phenomenon in Switzerland but it has changed tourist travel, as you can nowadays buy foodstuff on a Sunday, which wasn’t the case a few years ago.

    <<“which wasn’t the case a few years ago.”>>

Except at Züri HBf, where Sunday shopping was available long before the workers lost their day of rest in the rest of Switzerland.
