Hi ddwu and welcome to MySwissAlps!

I’d be tempted to go to Zermatt (http://www.myswissalps.com/ze rmatt) for a great winter landscape. However, do note that many shops and businesses are closed from about 12noon in Dec.24 to until the morning of Dec.27.

The Swiss all go skiing or do other winter sports. You can go up the mountains though without skiing so you can enjoy the mountain peaks/views. http://www.myswissalps.com/ac tivities/naturalsites/ mountains

    Hi Sdwu,

Another nice option would be St. Moritz or somewhere in that area: http://www.myswissalps.com/st moritz.

There is no perfect town for your travel plans for Zermatt and Lucerne visits.

I’d probably choose Lucerne. Not far to go on Dec.23 when you arrive and easy to get to the Zurich airport on Dec.26 (no reason to stay in Zurich on Dec.25 unless you want to stay there).

You’ll just have 1 longer day to Zermatt (not Zermart) which is a little over 3 hours one-way. http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

If you want a town sort of in the middle between Lucerne and Zermatt look at Interlaken.

I’d choose the 4 day Swiss Travel Pass for simplicity, but it depends on your travel plans each day (are you visiting mountains etc?) The Swiss Half Fare Card could work out too.

    Thank you for the information.

i am thinking to take the Glacier Express train and Golden Pass ion 24-dec & 25-dec. is that possible? If yes, how to plan, where should we stay? If not which one is the best choice?

If you are up for some long train trips you could take the Golden Pass route from Luzern to Montreux and then a regional train to Zermatt.

Leaving Zermatt, you can take the Glacier Express train to Chur and then on to Zurich.

Use the Swiss railways timetable to plan out the days though: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

    Thank you so much,

Do I need to stay in Zermatt for a night? Then take the train next morning on 25-dec. Does Glacier express run on 25-dec?

The timetable will give you the departure times for the Glacier Express. Typically it departs in the morning so an overnight the night before is a good idea.

On the timetable the Glacier Express is noted as PE (Panoramic Express) and looks like 1 departure at 08:52

    Thank you so much.

Is a way to select which window side when book the seat?

Is it not giving you the option of picking a seat on the reservation link? Click the Glacier Express link on my previous post and then the packages tab to make reservations.

    Think you!

I am plan to leave Lucerne in the morning, stop Jungfrau, then tour Zemartt, since we will leave Zemartt on the next morning for Glacial express train. Do you think that I have enough time? how to plan that day?

Lucerne to Jungfraujoch and explore Zermatt in one day? No that can’t work out unfortunately.

Check the timetable link I gave you to see travel times between Lucerne – Jungfraujoch – Zermatt. You can get to Zermatt at the end of the day but won’t have any time to explore.

    Thank you!

so, should I go to Jungfraujoch or Zermatt? Which one has the best to offer in the winter?

Oh there is certainly a lot on offer at both locations in the winter. It is a personal preference questions I think. I like Zermatt if I had to choose between the two in winter. Seeing the Matterhorn was more exciting to me than the Jungfraujoch and the village is quite lovely especially in the winter.
