Where to spend half-day near Lugano

So on Monday 12 Sep four of us will be on a day trip from Lake Como. We are from Australia.

We want to spend the later part of the afternoon at Miniatur and then catch the boat to Lake Lugano then have dinner in Lugano .

We wanted to be able enjoy some Swiss scenery earlier in the day and our options included Lake Locarno, train from Lucarno to S Maria Maggiore , train up to Airolo or look around Bellinzona. What do you think would be best? We can start very early from Como. This is to be a special day and we have Eurail passes.
