Firstly, A HUGE THANKS TO ALL @ MySwissAlps! Your guys are the greatestt!!! & made our trip to Switzerland last Sept/2017 the best trip ever thanks to your advise!!!!

Question….Best places to stay between Innsbruck, Austria & Villars Sur Ollon, Switzerland?

Best Rail passes for this trip. Itinerary below,

We are planning our next Switzerland trip & first “Winter Vacation in Switzerland”. We arrive by plane in Munich around Nov 28th & will travel by train for our full trip.

Munich, Old Town – 2 nights – Christmas markets, old town, Beer gardens

Innsbruck Area -6 nights – Snowshoeing, winter hiking, Christmas Markets in Innsbruck, Salzburg and areas around.

Zurich, Switzerland-2 nights – Christmas Markets, old town,

Grindelwald, Switzerland – 2 nights – Snowshoeing, winter hiking, Christmas markets

Villars Sur Ollon, Switzerland – 6 nights – snowshoeing, winter hiking, travel by train to Montreux, Sion, Luasanne, Chateux D’or, wine tastings & Christmas markets.

Zurich, Switzerland – 1 night, – Christmas Market, & last night in Switzerland , fly out of Zurich next morning.

We have reservations in Innsbruck & Villars, so the rest of our trip is still in planning stages and is totally open to your suggestions. We really enjoy the Grindelwald, Murren, Gimelwald, Wengen area very much so we have a short stay in Grindelwald.

Our goal is to try & keep daily train travel under 5 hours or less if possible.

Hi Bryan and Susan,

I think you picked the right places in Switzerland given you’ve booked accommodation in Villars sur Ollon. I’m not sure if you have visited Lucerne yet? If not I would consider spending only one night in Zurich and spend the other one in Lucerne. It’s a much nicer city.

In terms of the best rail pass, you will need to check the prices of all your planned train, bus, gondola tickets (you plan to take) and do the math to compare prices. We have a page here on how to choose the best rail pass that has a spreadsheet to help you.
