Which embassy should I apply for EU visit?

    Hi there,

I am now studying in Costa Rica and planning to visit EU during mid May this year. My Swiss friend is writing me an invitation letter to support my Schengen visa application and I am going to apply the visa at the Embassy of Swiss. However, my scholarship bought me a ticket to Netherlands already.

My question is if I get a Schengen visa to Swiss, do I have to enter Swiss before Netherlands? Is it possible for me to do the other way around?

    Thank you.

    Hi PhatNguyen, welcome to MySwissAlps!

In general you can enter Schengen through any of the participating countries, but I believe there are exceptions for so-called “short-stay visa”. I recommend to explain about your travel plans when you apply for your visa so the can issue the correct document for you.

Please note that the name of the country is Switzerland, not Swiss.

    I hope this was useful!
