On our last day of the trip (last week of Seotember), we need to travel from Stresa to Zurich Airport. Which option is a better experience (scenic/ must-do) to travel from Stresa to Zurich Airport?

Option 1:

Take Lake Maggiore Ferry from Stresa (11:15 AM) to Locarno (14:35 PM)

Take Centovalli Exporess (15:50 ) from Locarno to Domodossola (17:36)

Taje SBB train from Domodossola (17:48) to Zurich Airport (21:14) via Brig

Option 2:

Take Train from Stresa (12:21) to Brig (13:16)

Take Glacier Express from Brig (14:10) to Chur (18:24)

Take SBB train from Chur (18:39) to Zurich Airport (20:14)

It pretty much comes down to Glacier Express vs Lake Maggiore Ferry . We would have taken the Golden Pass train by this time. Considering that, should we go with Option 1 or Option 2? Thanks for your time.

How about Option 3? Stresa to Zurich Airport via Kandersteg. Takes 4 hours 21 minutes with the right connections and you will travel on the Regio-Express Lötschberger train between Brig and Bern over the traditional, more than 100 year old mountain route, giving you a wonderful view along the impressive peaks and down into the Rhone Valley.

But if you read this you may find the Centovalli (www.myswissalps.com/ce ntovalli) more appealing.

At that time of year I would say the Glacier Express (www.myswissalps.com/gl acierexpress) is a long way round for not a great deal of added value. Plus you need to pay for expensive seat reservations unless you take regular trains.

Thank you rockstar aka rockoyster. I just thought the ferry on Lake Maggiore will be a different experience. Is the ferry a nice enjoyable scenic experience? I was hoping that the Lake Ferry plus the Centovalli will be as good as the Glacier Express experience. Since we will be doing the Golden Pass, the ferry will be a different experience. But that is only if it stays close to the coast. Please let me know your thoughts.

One more question rockoyester - if we have time to do only one - would you recommend a tour to Orta San Guilio or the Lake Maggiore ferry? Thanks.

Sorry Ravi but I’ve never been on Lake Maggiore or the other Italian place you mentioned. It all boils down to personal preferences.
