    hello all! help needed.

We are a family of 8 adults (parents are 60 years of age) and 3 kids arriving in Zurich for the first time on the early morning of 31st may. we plan to stay in Zurich for 3 nights and 2 night in Geneva which we are not very sure of. should we only stay in zurich or lucern or should we change base from zurich or lucern to geneva after 3 nights if we want to visit interlaken , jungfraujoch? which other nearby places/towns can we travel to? can we do up down to all places from 1 place in switzerland? till what time do the markets remain open? we also want to see montreux and geneva.please suggest and thanks all in advance. on 5th june, we will be taking train from switzerland to paris which is not yet booked so please suggest on train timings and how to book as well please.

Hi Singh and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Where to stay really depends on what you want to see and do while in Switzerland.
If you are focused on Jungfraujoch and that area as well as Montreux than I would suggest staying in Interlaken or a nearby town like Grindelwald or Wengen for 3 nights and then 2 nights in Montreux.

i think that would make the most sense. You can use the Swiss railways timetable to help plan out all your trips. A rail pass for the adults (how old are the 3 kids?) is also a good idea. Perhaps a Swiss Travel Pass?

You can read about how to choose the best rail pass here.

    Hi Singh-

Lucas has given you good guidance, although you could help us by being more specific about the interests that direct your trip.

    Not surprisingly,

A central location to consider, while studying those that he linked, could be Luzern. I’d suggest that no mater what, Luzern is a better base than Zürich, easily reached on arrival at Zürich, unless your interests run to culture(museums) and high-end shopping.

You will find good train service to Paris from either Zürich or Geneva to Paris, but perhaps it might be a bit better from Geneva. The timetable linked by Lucas is the place to start.
