Hi, My husband and I are taking the train form Zurich to Wengen. spending 3 nights in Wengen. Planning on hiking and day trips in that area, then taking the train from Wengen to Lucern. spend the night for 2 nights. taking the train from Lucern to Munich. trying to decide which pass/passes would be best. if we do the regional passes, we will purchase the 1/2 fare pass or is it better to do the Swiss travel pass? thank you

Hi Prenkin and welcome to MySwissAlps.com!

Are you planning mountain trips from Lucerne? Like going to Pilatus or Rigi or Titlis for example? Or any boat trips on Lake Lucerne? Or are you going just to stay in the town?

If yes, and if you would like to travel (mountain transport included) in the Jungfrau region, I recommend a Swiss Travel Pass with the Jungfrau Travel Pass. A 25% discount applies to the Jungfrau Travel Pass price if you have a valid Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Half Fare Card at the time of traveling.

You can check the prices of these passes here: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass/price and http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/price. Make sure to also check the validity tab on those pages.

The Regional Pass Bernese Oberland has a bigger validity area than the Jungfrau Travel Pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/regionalpassberneseoberland/validity.

We also have a great calculation spreadsheet, that helps you to compare your pass options in case of doubt: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass.

Hi, Thank you for the reply. yes we are planning on taking a boat cruise in Lucern and visiting Mt. Pilatus. I’m been trying to figure out the cost, but it’s been somewhat confusing. Do you know if the STP covers the Gondola rides? For example, getting from Murren to Schilthorn or Wengen-Maennlichen? Thank you
