Hello faisal, thanks for joining MySwissAlps!
Yes, there are many rail passes to choose from. That can be confusing indeed. Which pass is best, depends on the details of your itinerary. The duration of your stay and the day trips you plan to make will determine which pass is easiest and most economical. So the first step would be to list your plans. Then you can do one of two things:
Of course we’re happy to give more specific advice, if you provide the details of your travel plans. Good luck and let us know if we can be of further assistance!

Your German base is a short walk from the Swiss town of Kaiserstuhl AG, which is on the Zurich ZVV network (zone 118):
http://www.sbb.ch/en/travelcards-and-tickets/tickets-for-switzerland/day-pass/saver-day-pass.html
As such you can get ZVV zonal passes
A Zurich zonal pass will get you as far as Thalwil, so you could get a separate ticket from Thalwil to Luzern
Note that Gelfingen is in Canton Luzern , not the city itself. It is a 25km train journey from Gelfingen to Luzern city.

Hi Fais,
I agree with 1960man. From your base in Germany, you can just walk or take the bus to Kaiserstuhl station and take the train to Zurich. I think a standard ticket cost about CHF11 for a single trip. You can find information on how to purchase point-to-point tickets here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland
If you’re planning frequent and multiple trips, you might want to consider getting the Swiss Half Fare Card so you can save from paying full-fare tickets. Also, with the Swiss Half Fare Card, you can purchase cheaper point-to-point tickets (Supersaver deals) and cheaper Saver Day Pass.
Let us know if you need more information.
Regards,
Anna
