Hi! My husband and I are travelling from Paris to Switzerland to Rome in January 2018. I did some calculation on which travel pass to buy and seems like Half Fare card will be a better option. But just want to check if there are other travel pass that we can consider for our itinerary below?

4 Jan: Paris to Grindelwald. Probably visiting Bern after we check in our hotel at Grindelwald.

5 Jan: Jungfraujoch / Keine Scheidegg

    6 Jan: Wengen / Lauterbrunnen / Interlaken

7 Jan: Grindelwald to Milan to Rome

Any advice are appreciated! Thank you!

Hello adekhooz and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

If you have done the sums (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass) and worked out that the Swiss Half-fare Card is a good option then you are probably right. The other option would be a 4-day Swiss Travel Pass which would mean you would not need to buy any tickets (apart from the trip to Jungfraujoch which is discounted 25% with the Swiss Travel Pass) for the rest of your trips in Switzerland. Very convenient.

Yet another option may be the Eurail Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/eu railselectpass) if you are doing a lot of train travel in France and Italy. But the discounts are not as good in Switzerland once you head up into the mountains.

Just an observation on your 4 January plan. Bern is an at least 3-hour round-trip from Grindelwald so it might be better for you to stop off at Bern on your way through if you are very keen to see that city.

On top of Rockoyster’s great comments also use the Swiss railways timetable here to plan out your train trips between towns and mountains to help you get an idea of travel times etc.
