Hi!

We’re a family of 3 (2 adults & 1 9 y/o child) planning to travel from the Swiss border Jestetten to Zermatt & back from Oct. 28-Nov. 1. We’ll be staying in Zermatt for 3 nights & 1 night in Siebnen-Wangen. We want to experience both mountain lifts Gornergrat & Matterhorn Paradise Glacier Express & combine it with moderate level of hiking to appreciate Matterhorn more.

Now I’m confused whether to choose Swiss Travel Pass or Half-Fare Pass, please give me some advice on how we can save yet maximize the benefits of having a Rail Pass. For both passes, will my 9 y/o child travel for free?

Hi gkloth, welcome to MySwissAlps!

Yes, your 9 year old will travel along for free if you order the free STS Familly Card along with either the Swiss Travel Pass or the Swiss Half Fare Card. In your case I think the Swiss Half Fare Card may be slightly better. That’s because your stay lasts 5 days and you can only choose from a 4 or 8 day Swiss Travel Pass. It all depends on your exact travel scheme though. Whether or not you do the full Glacier Express route may make an important difference, for example. It’s a long and expensive journey, which would be fully covered by the Swiss Travel Pass and only 50% by the Swiss Half Fare Card.

Hi Annika,

Thanks for the helpful tips, I guess I could start from here. I will be needing some help for hiking but I will post it on the other forum appropriate for this topic.
