Hi, was wondering if I could rent snow gear for my visit to jungfraujoch. Didn’t want to buy since it’s useless for us in India ..

any other options are also appreciated

    Hallo India,

When are you going to Jungfraujoch ?

In the summer it is not so cold with sunny weather. It is about -0 to -10. Is it not nice weather, you must not visit Jungfraujoch, because you see nothing in the cloud.

In addition to Brahms’s comments, I’ll add that much of the Jungfraujoch site is indoors

Sorry Slowpoke, the most on Jungfraujoch is outsite. Only the railwaystation, restaurant and Eispalace are insite. The most is outsite, walking in the snow, walking to the Mönchhutte (very nice to do) and the view platform are outsite. But in the summer, by nice weather not so very cold……..

    Hi Brahms-

You are right, of course, about the outdoor part.

What I should have said to be more clear is that there is a lot of stuff indoors, so that you can go inside to warm up.

And, the sunshine at high altitudes can be quite intense, but if it is cloudy, or windy, it can be cold.

Of course, if ti is cloudy, there is not so much motivation to be up thee in the first place.

    Hi Sachdev,

There would be shops in and around the Jungfrau region. I didn’t get time to visit there but went to Mt. Titlis. There was purchase and rental shop at the based (Engelberg ; near the first cable car station) from where I bought a pair of fleece gloves. They said they rent gears as well. So similar shops / stores would be there in Jungfrau too. But Swiss is pricey and specially in summers with more tourists pouring in, prices might be more. I got a ski jacket for myself from the US during my office trip so it came handy in Switzerland also in April, last month.

Intersport (a sports equipment rental group )does a lot of rentals…this link is for skis, but the map shows where they are near the Jungfrau.

I recall that they rent other equipment.

Worth an e-mail or telephone call to one of the local stores of your choice, depending on your routing.

It would depend on what you plan to do at the top – if you want to do all the snow fun activities and be in the snow for a sustained period of time then I would say you will need a warm jacket – if you just want to walk about a bit outside you will get by with sweatshirts/anorak. That’s assuming you’re going in summer when it’s warm. If not, please see http://www.myswissalps.com/plantrip/clothing/winter.
