I will be in Zermatt on 8 August . Which cable car should I take to get the best views of the Matterhorn?

Forgot to mention that my time in Zermatt is kind of limited. With that in mind, cable car or Gornergrat?
The simple answer is don’t take any cable car!
You can walk or take the Rack railway to Gornergrat– the Gornergrat Bahn (GGB)
The quickest way to see the Matterhorn is from the village itself, by walking to the south end of the village or up the valley side on the north west side of the village.
The simplest way to see it from a higher altitude especially with limited time available is to get the first available Gornergrat Bahn (GGB) train up to Gornergrat – it doesn’t have to be all that long as weather permitting you can see the Matterhorn from train window on the journey up ; the minimum time needed for Gornergat is just on 2 hours (33 mins train each way with 30 mins at the top)
We had the best view of the Matterhorn from the village. If you get off the train walk to Bahnhofplatz, turn right onto Bahnhofstrasse. Bahnhofstrasse becomes Oberdorfstrasse. You will start noticing less pedestrians as this is more of a residential area. Just carry on walking and the Matterhorn will appear in all its magnificent glory. And also if you do it like this it will give you more time to spend in the village. We enjoyed the lovely vibe and the people are super friendly.
Hi Bsphoto
I thought the best view was from Riffelalp which is about the third stop on the Gornergrat bahn, about a third of the way to the summit. It is noticeably closer than the Gornergrat summit and unobstructed from the front lawn of the hotel at the train stop. My thumbnail photo was taken from the balcony of my 2nd floor room balcony.
