We intend travelling by train from Zermatt to Stresa (Italy) . We understand that our Swiss Half Fare Rail Pass will allow us to purchase tickets from Zermatt to Domodossola (Italy) at 50% discount. Do we need to break our journey in Domodossola and purchase another ticket from Domodossola to Stresa on Italian rail at full fare ?

    Cheers Cameron

Hi Cameron and welcome to MySwissAlps!

The timetable allows you to buy a ticket for Zermatt to Stresa and indicate when buying that you have the Swiss Half Fare Card and it will give you the appropriate reduction for the Swiss part of the route – you will have to select the “Half-Fare travelcard” though, which is the similar but not identical version for Swiss residents. That should work in this case.

Another option is to split tickets: buy Zermatt – Domodossola for the actual Swiss Half Fare Card (buy it in Zermatt or here). Buy a regular ticket Domodossola – Stresa here.
