Hi Den,

You could consider a trip to Saas-Fee. In Saas-Fee, the beautiful village is well worth a stroll, and you could also go up to one of the local mountains, such as the Hannigalp.

If interested, you could read my trip reports here:

Saas-Fee village

www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/saas-fee-hannigalp

A return trip on the Hannigalp gondola will cost CHF 18 with the Swiss Travel Pass (50% discount on the full fare of CHF 36).

I have also written a report on the PostBus trip through the Saastal (Saas Valley), which you can find under the heading Meiringen to Saas-Fee on the following page:

Saas-Fee is in the neighbouring valley to Zermatt. From Zermatt to Saas-Fee takes almost 2 hours, all of it scenic. You would transfer from the train to a PostBus at Stalden-Saas for the trip through the Saastal (see attached screenshot from Google Maps). The PostBus is free with the Swiss Travel Pass.

Thanks for your suggestion we will look into it not sure if we fancy that much travelling though as we are leaving here tomorrow to go to Weggis for a few nights. Really enjoyed reading your reports and will keep that in mind for a future trip.

Brig is a little closer to you (but it takes awhile to get out of that valley regardless).

It is a nice town to exploreand visit Stockalper Palace. https://www.myswissalp s.com/brig

Also, try the hike to the Charles Kuonen Suspension bridge? https://www.zermatt.ch /en/Media/Attractions/ The-Charles-Kuonen-Suspension-Bridge

We ended up just spending some time exploring Zermatt, walked the Gorner Gorge then to Winklematten and then round Zermatt itself stopping for a few drinks and having an easy day. Long train journey tomorrow to Weggis so wife didn't fancy traveling.
