Been travelling through Switzerland have one day left in Zermatt. Done Gornergrat and Glacier paradise as well as some local walks any other suggestions for our last day?.even if it includes travel as we have a Swiss travel pass.

Hi Den,

You could consider a trip to Saas-Fee. In Saas-Fee, the beautiful village is well worth a stroll, and you could also go up to one of the local mountains, such as the Hannigalp.

A return trip on the Hannigalp gondola will cost CHF 18 with the Swiss Travel Pass (50% discount on the full fare of CHF 36).

Saas-Fee is in the neighbouring valley to Zermatt. From Zermatt to Saas-Fee takes almost 2 hours, all of it scenic. You would transfer from the train to a PostBus at Stalden-Saas for the trip through the Saastal (see attached screenshot from Google Maps). The PostBus is free with the Swiss Travel Pass.

Thanks for your suggestion we will look into it not sure if we fancy that much travelling though as we are leaving here tomorrow to go to Weggis for a few nights. Really enjoyed reading your reports and will keep that in mind for a future trip.

Brig is a little closer to you (but it takes awhile to get out of that valley regardless).

We ended up just spending some time exploring Zermatt, walked the Gorner Gorge then to Winklematten and then round Zermatt itself stopping for a few drinks and having an easy day. Long train journey tomorrow to Weggis so wife didn’t fancy traveling.
