Zermatt/Matterhorn hiking & photography questions
-
We thoroughly enjoy coming to Switzerland – the people, accommodations, food, scenery, hiking trails, transportation system – all made easier and more enjoyable by help from MySwissAlps and its forums.
For my wife and me this will be the third visit in seven years, but our first to the Zermatt/Matterhorn area where we will be for part of one day in late June, arriving mid-morning by train and leaving early evening the same day. Unfortunately, we will not be able to overnight in Zermatt or nearby. We hope to do some easy to moderate hiking in the area and are avid amateur photographers, so we want to spend our limited hours enjoying the area and photographing (especially the Matterhorn). It looks like a trip up to Riffelalp station on the Gornergrat Bahn will put us in a good place for a few hours of moderate hiking.
Our questions:
- Will hiking near Riffelalp station provide opportunities to photograph the Matterhorn?
- Can you suggest a place or two in the Riffelalp area that will provide especially stunning photo opportunities? (yes, this is very subjective).
- We are not committed to the Riffelalp area. Are there suggestions for other places to hike/photograph that we can do from Zermatt in our limited time available?
Thanks to all for your advice.
