Hi ravical04 and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Zurich is not a convenient place to base yourself to visit the Alps. If you have the opportunity to move your base to another town like Luzern you might have a more enjoyable trip.

That being said, you can use the Swiss railways timetable to plan out trips from Zurich airport to various mountains and lakes. Zurich airport to Luzern is a only little over an hour.

Some of the closest mountains to you are near Luzern: Mt. Pilatus, Mt. Rigi and Mt. Titlis. Zurich has a nice lake with a boat cruise, though many people prefer Lake Luzern.

From Zurich (or better Luzern) you can also take a trip to the Jungfrau Region, perhaps Lake Thun for example. You could even do a day trip further on to Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn (two of the most famous mountains in Switzerland though from Zurich they are perhaps too far).

It is really up to you where you go (ie how much time on the train you’re willing to deal with).

If you do a fair bit of travel by train everyday a good idea would be to buy a rail pass such as the Swiss Travel Pass; it also gives you discounts or free access to many mountains as well.

    Hi Ravical04,

I received your e-mail. You asked “Do you know during early June, does one need to have winter clothing at Zurich? Or at Luzern?

No, you don’t need winter clothing there. Early June is spring, and summery weather is certainly possible as well. Please see:

You could visit one of the other mountains or lakes I mentioned earlier or have a look at our recommended activities for Lucerne here.

    Hej !

As Arno has stated, you don’t need Winter clothing in the first half of June, however, you should be prepared for cool weather (and snow) if you take the trip up to the Jungfraujoch, one of the excursions that Lucas has mentioned. If you want to cruise on any of the lakes, I would recommend Lake Lucerne first, then Lake Thoune, or Lake Geneva (Léman) if you are willing to go a bit farther. Lake Brienz, on the other side of Interlaken from Lake Thoune, is smaller but also quite nice.

    hello all,

We are staying at Fox Hotel in Luzern, on June 11, planning on the Golden round Pilatus trip taking the boat , cogwheel, gondola and cable car. Hope to stop at Frakmuntegg for Toboggan run . Then next day June 12 visiting/touring Zurich (Old town as such all day), from Luzern via the train. Leaving on the 13 via train again to ZRH airport for Rome.

Is it worth to get the Swiss summer tell Pass?

The Tell Pass would cover the first day in Lucerne but part of the trip to Zurich only. if you are in Switzerland for 3 days total I would look closely at the 3 day Swiss Travel Pass instead.
