We are hiking in the Bernese Alps in early September, and have a Swiss Travel pass, but will land in Zurich the day before the pass starts.

So we need a point to point train ticket, Zurich Airport to Lauterbrunnen, in the neighborhood of 6PM but there are several us, we’ll need to meet up, find baggage. So flexibility needed. Can we simply go to the train station and directly buy the tickets at the time for a reasonable cost.

    many thanks,

    David Heiden, San Francisco

As with all transport fares worldwide (almost) nowadays, flexibility = higher price. The full fare for your single journey will be around CHF80. It is highly likely that a Saver Day Pass will be cheaper. These can be purchased in advance – the earlier the cheaper.

Saver Days Passes do give flexibility in that they are a one day ‘ride at will’ pass for the whole of Switzerland, so if you had one ‘in hand’ having pre-purchased on line you could walk on to the first available train from Zurich.

thanks so much – so it looks like advanced purchase will save approximately $35 US.

    best,
