Hi all! Our party of 4 arrive from the U.S. August 30 about 12:35 into Zurich airport. We are spending 9 days in Switzerland before heading to Germany. We are getting the 8 day rail pass that we will start using the next day so we’ll get point to point rail tickets from the airport to Luzern as soon as we get in. My question is: what is the process when you land? Do you have to go through customs etc? About how long does that take? I see the train is in the lower level of the airport. What would be our simplest way of getting tickets at the airport? The ticket machines look pretty easy. Where is the best place to get cash? Thanks in advance!

Hi JCH58,

You’ll go through immigration coming from the US yes. How long that will take is hard to say – depends on how many other flights are arriving at the same time but Zurich airport is the most efficient I’ve ever used.

Train tickets can be bought at the lower level (just above where the trains leave) either at a ticket machine in English, or at the Swiss railways office or online before you go: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland /price

I normally withdraw cash at an ATM at the airport.

Yep, Lucas has given the same info I would give. I always arrive from London, and it usually takes about 30 minutes from plane to station platform.

That’s encouraging. According to the sbb website there is one train every hour that goes direct from the airport to Luzern and we want to get the earliest one we can after we land so we can check in and start exploring Luzern!

That’s correct; route IR75 trains at xx.15 past each hour from Zürich Flughafen. I think you would make the 13.15 if your flight arrives on time.

Yes we’re going to get the direct train that leaves on the :15 every hour, hopefully the 13:15 but if we have to wait til 14:15 it will be fine .
