    Hi,

I am visiting Zurich during 1st week of March. I have training from 2nd March to 6th March. I am planning to visit with my family ( I have 3 kids 6Y, 3Y, 1Y) and planned to extend my stay two days in Luzern (7&8) then moving to Italy for 5 days. (Three days in Florence and Two days in Rome).

My training at Baden. I am planning to stay at Zurich and will use train to travel to baden for first five days. So, that i can explore Zurich in the evening.

could you please suggest which pass will be suitable for my plan?

Do I have to make any reservation via Any tour agency for local sightseeing in Zurich/luzern/Italy trip ?

    Could you please suggest?

    Hi AbuAnas,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps!

Where will you be staying in Zurich? Baden is not very far from the city. Depending how close you are, you could just get a multiple journey tickets for your 5-day commute to Baden. A railpass is optional if you plan to do a lot of travelling outside of Zurich – Baden. What about your family? Will they be travelling while you are in training? Please see:

For sightseeing and day trip suggestions from Zurich and Lucerne, please check out the links below. Some are guided tours which require booking.

Baden is also a very nice town (http://www.baden.ch/).

    Hope that helps.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hi Anna,

Thank You for your reply and suggestions.

I have not made confirmed hotel reservation yet. i am looking for a stay near to Zurich HB station but Hotel prices are high near by this place. Is there any place to find hotels in the middle of Baden-Zurich? I am searching with Google maps but not getting any clue.

My family will not be travelling during my training. My training will end by 1pm everyday . So, The plan is to explore Zurich after 2pm once i come back from training.

Near by Zurich/Luzern/baden where can we see snow for kids to play?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi AbuAnas,

Have you tried looking for accommodation using these links?

If you plan to do a bit of travelling after your training, I think the Swiss Half Fare Card may work for you and your family. With this railpass, you pay only half the price of regular train fares and you can also take advantage of discounts on Saver Day Passes and Supersaver tickets. In addition, you will get a complimentary Swiss Family Card , which will let your kids travel along for free. Please find more details in the links below:

If your kids would like to play with snow, the closest and most accessible mountain from Zurich by public transport is Flumserberg. From Zurich HB, you take the train to Unterterzen via Ziegelbrucke. It’s about 1 hr journey. In Unterterzen, you can take a cable car up to Flumserberg. The cable car station is just walking distance from the train station. Details here: http://www.flumserberg.ch/Winter/Infos-en/For-families

If you’re starting out form Lucerne, the obvious choice would be Rigi or Titlis.

    Regards,

    Anna

I recommend the Ibis Baden Neuenhof as good value. There is a bus stop outside the hotel which connects to Baden or Killwangen Spreitenbach (for train connection into Zurich), or there is a pretty walk from the hotel to Wettingen station which is on the Zurich commuter network.

by the way, Baden and its surrounding area has as many interesting sights at Zurich

    Hi,

    I have few questions

    1) In Sbb website, i searched for train between Luzern – Florence. In the reduction for option, i could see options such as ( GA 2.cl, 1 year/GA Subscription/GA 1.cl, 1 year/GA Subscription/Half fare travel card 1/2/3 year) Is GA and Swiss Travel pass are same? shall choose GA 2.cl, 1 year if i have STP for 2nd class?

    2) How to book mount Rigi excursion from Luzern?

    3) Considering travel with infants and kids, which mountain excursion would be safe? Rigi/Pilatus?

    4) what is the difference between Saver Day Passes and Super saver tickets?

    Hi AbuAnas!

    1) GA stands for “General Abonnement”, which is a type of pass used by Swiss residents. It provides discounts and free traveling equivalent to what the Swiss Travel Pass offers, so yes, that’s what you can select when buying for tickets. Please refer to http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy as well. It explains how to find a ticket to Italy if you have a Swiss Travel Pass, and several retailes ares listed at http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy/price.

    2) You don’t have to book anything: http://www.myswissalps.com/rigi/tickets. With your Swiss Travel Pass, you can simply hop on and off all Rigi trains and cable cars: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity.

    3) Both should be safe. Rigi (http://www.myswissalps.com/rigi) is at lower altitude, so there’s less change of high altitude sickness for infants. This might be a reason to choose Rigi over Pilatus (http://www.myswissalps.com/pilatus), as you’ll be traveling with a 1 year old.

    4) Please find Saver Day Passes explained at http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass, and Supersaver tickets at http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland.
