i hope i am correct place to ask my questions.

I willl be Zurich between 26-31 October with my wife.

Day 1- Landing and after hotel check in discovering Zurich. That’s fine

Day 2 – Zurich to Bern and return Zurich.

Day 3 – Zurich to Lucern and return Zurich.. Is it possible to visit Mount Rigi same day?

Day 4- Zurich to Geneva and return.

Day 5- Zurich to Vaduz va Sargans and return.

Day 6 – Time to get back to my hometown.

According to my plan, i suppose i can travel by Saver Day Pass (Day 2,3,4, and 5) Is there any different and cheaper way to travel? Or Saver Day Pass is rather enough?

Another question that i couldn’t gen answer is whether i can go every town of Switzerland by Saver Day Pass .It is easy each information says “yes” . But i could not find Saver Day Pass selection to buy when i search Zurich to Vaduz route (i am checking for end of September) if you say buy Saver Day Pass and go vaduz. i will be planning like this.

Finally, if you can give any advice for my route it will be very lovely bonus. For example visit Montreaux before you go Geneva etc.

Thank you for your patience and answers

Hi Boreas and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Your itinerary is doable. On the Lucerne day, start with Rigi and after Rigi you can visit Lucerne. If you are going to Rigi you have several options like the ‘Majestic Round Trip’ and the ‘Classic Round Trip’. Read about them at http://www.myswissalps.com/rigi. All towns you’ve mentioned (included Vaduz) and also Rigi is free with the Saver Day Pass, you can see the validity map at http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass/validity.

To find out if the Saver Day Pass is the better option or not, you should compare your other options like Swiss Travel Pass (Flex) and Swiss Half Fare Card. You can do that using our calculation spreadsheet. You can download it from here: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass.

From your itinerary I can see that you are more interested in the cities than nature and mountains, is that correct? A personal preference but I prefer Lausanne and Montreux over Geneva. I think they are more Swiss-like. Also, the UNESCO heritage Lavaux area is one of my favourites: http://www.myswissalps.com/lakegeneva.

If you are either at Lake Lucerne or Lake Geneva, make sure to try the old steamboats: http://www.myswissalps.com/boatlakegeneva and http://www.myswissalps.com/boatlakelucerne.

You’ll find a selected list of hotels near the Zurich train station at http://www.myswissalps.com/zurich/hotels. Our forum members usually have good experiences with Hotel Adler.

You’ll find more activities in and around your chosen towns here:

    I hope this helps,

    Ildiko

A couple suggestions based on past trips:

Day 1 – We found walking through “old town” Zurich near the Limmat River much more interesting than along the Bahnhofstrasse.

Day 3 – You could take a regular train from Zurich to Arth Goldau, switch to the cogwheel train (blue) up to Rigi, then take a different cogwheel train (red) down the other side to Vitznau on Lake Lucerne and catch a boat back to Lucerne. The boat docks right next to the train station and the “old town” part of Lucerne. Great for exploring, and easy to catch a train back to Zurich.

Day 5 – Easy to get to Vaduz from Zurich, about 1.5 hours one way. Train to Sargans, then catch a bus right across the street from the train station to Vaduz. Vaduz is fairly small.

No input on your other destinations. Have fun.

Thank you for these very detailed and quick answer.

Honestly because of seasonal conditions i prefer cities instead of mountains. Otherwise Switzerland looks like “paradise on earth” and one life never enough to discover even you assist us like this.

But finally i want to ask my last question. For day 1, airport to city center and sailing away in Lake of Zurich. Which transportation card is the best?

    Hi,

For Day 1, if your plan is just to explore Zurich city, you can get the Zurich Card. More information here: http://www.myswissalps.com/zurich/travel

    Hi Boreas!

Saver Day Passes can indeed work for your plans. I’d advise to consider a 4-day Swiss Travel Pass for day 2-5 as well. It offers even more flexibility, as it includes free access to museums (which might be handy in case of bad weather) and reduction on mountain transportation. If you’d like to visit mountain tops, the Swiss Travel Pass is usually the better choice. Rigi is indeed included in the Saver Day Pass, but that’s an exception.

The “How to choose” page linked to by Ildikó is the best way to find out which option is best for your plans. And here’s a further comparison between Saver Day Passes and the Swiss Travel Pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass/details.

Late-October is indeed low season and not all mountain transportation will be running, so I understand your preference for cities. I’m sure you’ll love the towns in your itinerary! A side note: many mountains can still be visited, despite of the low season. You’ll just have to check dates carefully. If you’re lucky, you can get above the clouds when traveling to a mountain top. By this time of the year, it can be moist and cloudy in the valleys but beautifully sunny on mountain tops. No guarantees though :-). Of couse you can be lucky and have brilliant clear autumn skies in the cities and valleys as well. Please refer to https://www.myswissalps.com/besttimetovisit and http://www.myswissalps.com/weather.
