    Hi Everyone,

First of all thank you for the wonderful forum who provide great information.

I’m planning to travel to Switzerland for the first along with my wife and Parents (63yrs and 55yrs old). I’m flying in from London into Zurich on 22nd Aug and returning to London on 27th Aug from Zurich.

Kindly advise which itinerary would be better

    Itinerary – 1

22-Aug: Land in Zurich Aiport (10am). Proceed to Rhine falls – Catch Train to Lucerne. Overnight Stay in Lucerne

23-Aug: Mt. Titlis from Lucerne. Local sighseeing in Lucerne. Overnight stay in Lucerne

24-Aug: Golden Triangle tour in Lucerne. Reach Andermatt. Catch Glacier Express to Zermatt. Overnight Stay in Zermatt

25-Aug: Sunrise view of Matterhorn. Move to Interlaken by afternoon. Check-in. Visit Harder Kulm

    26-Aug: Interlaken – Lauterbrunnen – Staubbach falls – Murren – Schilthorn

27 – Aug: Lake Thun in the morning. Start to Zurich by 12pm. Reach Airport by 2pm

    Itinerary – 2

22-Aug: Land in Zurich Aiport (10am). Proceed to Chur. Catch Glacier Express (14:16 ) to Zermatt. Overnight Stay in Zermatt

23-Aug: Sunrise view of Matterhorn. Move to Interlaken by afternoon. Check-in. Visit Harder Kulm

    24-Aug: Interlaken – Lauterbrunnen – Staubbach falls – Murren – Schilthorn

25 – Aug: Lake Thun in the morning. Start to Lucerne. Check-in. Relax

26-Aug: Mt. Titlis from Lucerne. Local sighseeing in Lucerne. Overnight stay in Lucerne

27-Aug: Golden Triangle tour in Lucerne.Return to Zurich Aiport by 2pm.

I also need advise about Swiss Travel Pass. For my itineraries above, should I take 8-day STP? or 4-day STP along with SHFC?

Also, please advise if I should tweak anything to make the experience better

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers

    Vish

Hi Vish and welcome to MySwissAlps!

To me both itineraries are fine. I think it just comes down to doing the Glacier Express train or not (https://www.myswissalp s.com/glacierexpress). I’d do the itinerary 2 personally. I don’t get very excited for the Rheinfalls. https://www.myswissalp s.com/rheinfall

Are you planning to go up the Gornergrat for views of the Matterhorn? It is your best bet (hopefully the weather cooperates for good views). https://www.myswissalp s.com/gornergrat

I’d also go with the 8 day Swiss Travel Pass. https://www.myswissalp s.com/swisstravelpass
But if you want to know for sure which is the most economical you can check prices with our spreadsheet to compare: https://www.myswissalp s.com/train/ticketspas ses/practical/choosera ilpass

    Hi Lucas,

    Thank you for the advise.

    – I have also realised I would have to choose between Rhine falls and Glacier Express. So, I will go with glacier express on Day-1 which is Itinerary-2.

    – Also, Unfortunately I’m not going to Gornegrat and rather would be staying Zermatt village to catch a glimpse of Matterhorn. Would you suggest I go to Gornegrat in the early morning for view? Please advise how we reach there and how long would it take from Zermatt to gornegrat and back. Can we accommodate both Gornegrat and visit to Harder kulm.

    – I have tried to make a list of all journeys and compare the cost. It turns out the Interrail Pass is much Cheaper than the STP. Most of our journeys are Train. We use buses on only Day -2 (To and fro to accommofation, visit to harder kulm, if possible lake thun also) Day-3 (Staubbach falls, Trummelbach falls, Lauterbrennan). Also Cable cars on Day-2 (Funicular to Harder kulm) Day-3 Stechelbergg to Murren, Murren to Schilthorn) whilst in Interlaken. What do suggest we do to for Day-2 and Day-3 to get free bus and discounted cable car prices?

    – Also, I realized Taking a Tell pass whilst in Lucerne is as good as Stp For our itinerary. Hence I’m planning to take 3 – Day STP and 3 – tell pass) which Comes to 1504 EURR (900 CHF forr 3day STP ndd 840 CHF for Tell Pass) as against 1376 Eur For STP 8 days + 280Eur for titlis cable car and goldenn triangle pilatus . Would you suggest otherwise?

THanks again for the information and suggestions which are of great help

    Hi Vish,

If the weather is good I’d go up Gornergrat yes. How to get there is explained on my link on Gornergrat I posted to you. You can use the timetable here to find schedules and trip duration: https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable

Both mountains in one day is possible yes (if you get started early enough of course) Harder Kulm operates until 9pm.

I can’t offer what to do for free or discounted until you’ve decided on the rail pass(es).

You wouldn’t need to buy both the Swiss Travel Pass and the Tell Pass. Is that what you were looking at? I would only look at getting one pass and compare to getting a different pass.
