We are arriving in Zurich on June 26 and traveling by train from there to Grindelwald. We will be staying in Grindelwald and taking day trips by train on June 27, 28, 29 and then taking a train to Milan, Italy on June 30. I’m thinking of buying a 4 day consecutive Swiss pass which will leave me 1 day without transportation. What would be the cheapest way to travel on the 5th day? It would have to be either the first day or last day of our trip to allow us the 4 consecutive travel days by Swiss pass. I read somewhere that I could by a German pass and use it from Zurich to Grindelwald. It mentioned that would be cheaper than buying a one day Swiss pass? Or, is there another alternative to take at the end of our trip to Milan? Any help please?

I’m not sure the German Pass is all about. Sounds like the sort of scheme The Man in Seat 61 might cook up. Unless you are arriving from Germany, in which case check http://www.bahn.com/en/view/i ndex.shtml from you departure point in Germany to Grindelwald.

Your best bet would be the Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass and bit.ly/2rkekat) for your first or last day.

What you read about the Germany fare was probably not about a German pass, but a Germany point to point ticket to Switzerland, which is sometimes cheaper than a Swiss ticket. Please find it explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland.
