    Hi ShasaShariff,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

The Swiss Travel Pass is valid only in Switzerland. For further details on the STP’s benefits and validity, please check out this link: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass

For the travel from Paris to Lausanne, the Swiss Travel Pass provides free travelling from the French-Swiss border to Lausanne so depending on your connection this could be from Geneva to Lausanne. You need a ticket for the French part of your journey. You can find information about train tickets from France here: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/france

Similarly for your outward journey to Milan, you only need a ticket for the Italian part of your journey as the Swiss Travel Pass covers the trip from your base to the border. For information on train tickets to Italy: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy.

Hope this answers your questions. Let us know if you need more info.

    regards,

    Anna

The Swiss Travel Pass will not be much use for Paris – Lausanne as the section in Switzerland is not very long, so a advance fare ticket bought direct from TGV Lyria will be a better bet. STP will be more use for Zurich – Milan as the majority of the journey is in Switzerland (Como – Milan in Italy is a short hop)

    Hi ShasaSharif,

I agree with 1960man, you might be able to find a cheaper deal for a single ticket from Paris to Lausanne without using the Swiss Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/france).

In any case the Swiss Travel Pass provides free travelling on Swiss public transport. For the trip from Zurich to Milan, all you need is the connecting ticket from Chiasso to Milan.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Dear Anna,

sorry again for my question.. i need a suggestion for my trip..

    1. which pass should i take , coz we are family of 5.. and we will stay in paris -3d , swiss -4d , and italy -5d..

    2. For swiss trip we only going to glacier 3000 , queen musee in montreux n the castle, if possible we r taking the cruise..

I am confused to take either STP or Interail pass which i know STP is more saver but limited only in swiss..

or we can take single tix from paris – geneva .. n when arrived swiss we use STP.. next trip we buy other tix from zurich to milan.. when arrived italy we will take tourist pass.. or u have any good suggestion.. thanks ya

    Hello SashaSariff,

If you don’t plan lots of traveling while you’re in Paris and Milan, the combination of a 4-day Swiss Travel Pass and normal point-to-point tickets for France and Italy makes most sense:

If you do have many longer trips planned in France and Italy as well, consider a Eurail Global Pass:

If you want to be completely sure which option is cheapest, you should make a list of all of your plans and then start calculating. This page explains how, and provides free downloads to help you out: https://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass.

    Hi Anna,

I had a similar question. I know that for travelling to Milan from Zurich, I just need to book for the Italian leg which is Chiaso to Milan(if I have the STP that is). Now my question is?

    1) Do I have to book for the entire journey(Zurich- Milan) from SBB and select concession as GA2 or

    2) Can I simply book any ticket from Chiaso to Milan for that Particular day and hop on to any train off to Milan from Zurich on that day? Or is it time specific like super saver tickets?

    Hi ABISHEK1691,

Correct, with the Swiss Travel Pass you only need tickets from Milan to Chiasso (https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity). Seat reservations are different from tickets. Whether or not you need once, depends on the type of train(s) you choose.

    • Many EC trains require reservations for the Italian leg and optional for the Swiss leg. You could indeed book the entire stretch Chiasso-Zurich and select ‘GA’ in 2nd class, assuming you have a 2nd class Swiss Travel Pass. The GA or ‘General-Abo’ provides the same benefits as the Swiss Travel Pass in this case: https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/details. This is sometimes referred to as a ‘passholder fare’, meaning that you buy a ticket and seat reservation at once, with the fee for the Swiss leg Chiasso-Zurich automatically being deducted. You’ll find explanation about this at http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy. Purchase options include the SBB and many other ticket resellers: https://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy/price. Seat reservations are valid for one specific train and departure time only.
    • For regional trains Milan-Chiasso(-Lugano), seat reservations aren’t required or not even possible. In that case you can get a regular ticket without reservations for Milan-Chiasso. You’d have to check the exact ticket conditions. Some Italian tickets are valid all day, others for a specific timeframe only. You’ll find details once you start booking. Options are here: https://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy/price.

Once in Switzerland, your Swiss Travel Pass allows for unlimited hopping and off as you like: https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/howtouse. Swiss trains rarely require reservations: https://www.myswissalps.com/train/reservations. The timetable shows whether or not reservation is necessary. See the header “Seat reservations” at http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable for details.

I hope this answer your questions!

    Hi,

I had a slightly different question. As per my attachment, I am looking to travel to Milan from Zurich on 14th August. Now I have selected a direct train(euro city 315) which leaves at 9:33 am from Zurich HB. Now further, I selected GA2 as my discount(Considering I will purchase a 2nd class swiss travel pass once i reach Switzerland). Now my question was, once that I have booked this train ticket, is my ticket valid only for 9:33am ticket on eurocity 315 to Milano centrale ONLY or CAN I board any train going tfrom zurich HB to Milano Centrale on that particular day in question.

No , you can only travel on that trains if you want to stay on board the same train all the way as you have bought a compulsory reservation ticket.

If you want to take any of the direct Zurich – Milan trains, you can buy a ticket valid only for the Swiss section – as reservations are not required for journeys wholly within Switzerland

    Hi,

That’s correct. This ticket is only valid on the selected connection as it comes with seat reservation.

    Regards,

    Anna
