I’m planning to purchase Swiss pass for my four days trip in Switzerland, I learned that if I am traveling to Salzburg in train, I could get FREE transport up to swiss border and gotta purchase the Austria part ticket from there?

But what if I wanna purchase the direct train ticket from Zurich to Salzburg, is the Swiss pass helping in anything? Any discount? or I just have to pay the full price of the ticket.

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi Shaw, welcome to MySwissAlps!

I’ll assume the Swiss Travel Pass here, as SwissPass is something different and not for tourists. With the Swiss Travel Pass you’ll get the Zurich to Buchs SG (border) leg for free, so you only need a ticket from there. The saving isn’t huge however, if any (depends on the ticket type). So if you would buy a 4-day instead of a 3-day Swiss Travel Pass just for this trip, then it won’t be worth the extra money. The 3-day Swiss Travel Pass and a ticket from Zurich to Salzburg will work just fine.

    Hi, thanks for your reply!

Does it mean it’s not possible to get DIRECT train ticket with discounted price?

If so, then I think I’ll just get the 3 days pass and purchase the train ticket to Salzburg separately.

You’re welcome Shaw! Direct train or not does not matter. If you would use the pass for the Swiss leg you can stay seated as well, as you will have a ticket for the rest of the trip.
