    Hi Atwani,

You can buy the combined tickets (cable car plus adventure activities) at the Grindelwald First valley station.

The Pfingstegg valley station is easily accessible by bus from Grindelwald town. You can also walk there from the Grindelwald First valley station (about 10 minutes). To access the toboggan, take the cable car up to Alp Pfingstegg (5 minutes ride).

    Hello

    Thank you for your response.

I am typing down my day for Mt.Rigi while we are in Lucern and I am confused what I typed before lol

    Mt.Rigi:

1- train from Lucerne to Arth-Goldau

2- then Rigi cog wheel train is different than the Arth-Goldau train station . Then take the rigi-bahn to Mt Rigi. ( I cant find the page that explains this. So after I arrive Arth Goldau from Luzern I will have to walk somewhere to a different station [what is the name of this station] and take Rigi Bahn to Mt Rigi [ Is this the cog wheel and is there a site to purchase tickets or better to buy in person with swiss pass]

3- then descent with train over Vitznau, with the boat ride back to Lucerne [ Up on mt Rigi will there be a train station that goes down to Vitznau?]

The boat ride back to Luzern will that be around the area when we land in Vitznau?

    Thanks

    Hi Atwani,

    1. and 2. The trains from Arth-Goldau leave from a station officially called “Arth-Goldau RB” (RB stands for RigiBahnen) in the Swiss timetable . This is basically an outdoor platform at higher level than the other tracks/platforms of Arth-Goldau. You’ll easily find your way as the route to this platform is clearly indicated.

You can board the cogwheel trains to Rigi there. You write “Swiss Pass”. Does this mean you’ll be having a Swiss Travel Pass? In that case there’s no need to buy tickets, as all routes to Rigi are free. Please see https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity and the section “Get a discount with your rail pass” at https://www.myswissalps.com/rigi/tickets.

    3. The top station is called Rigi Kulm. Trains to Vitznau leave there. The valley train station in Vitznau is right across the boat dock, you can’t miss it.

Maybe you’ve already seen this page, but just in case you haven’t: https://www.myswissalps.com/rigi/gettingthere.

    Hello

Thank you for response. Every response has helped me plan my day to day itinerary so well.

On our last day we will be taking the train from Luzern station to Zurich airport station. I saw on the SBB website there are some direct trains which we plan on taking . I assume its also covered by the swiss pass. From your experience when you arrive Zurich Airport Railway station is it within minutes to reach the Kiosks at the airport to check in ? We will be heading to Swiss Airlines Kiosks to check in a bag.

    Thank you

    Hi Atwani,

Yes, the Swiss Travel Pass covers the train journey to the airports too.

The train terminal at the Zurich Airport is located underground. You would need to take the lifts or escalators up to get to the check-in counters. There are 3 separate check-in terminals (1, 2, 3) but they’re all easily accessible and clearly signposted. Zurich Airport is fairly easy to navigate. You can find more information here: http://www.myswissalps.com/airports/zurich (click on the links under information on other websites for a layout plan of the airport terminals).

    Hope this helps.

    regards,

    Anna

Would you permit me to “add-on” to this discussion as I have many identical questions?

My itinerary is Zurich to Wengen where we will spend 3 nights, and then we take the train to Geneva. We are both seniors and I see that there are some discounts for seniors on some of the passes. I was trying to compare three different pricing options:

    1. The Swiss Travel Pass at 313 each.

    2. Point to Point for Zurich/Bern (approx 100) and Bern/Geneva (approx 90) plus the Regional BO pass (2 X 270).

    3. Half fare card (268), then ZRH/Bern 50 then Bern/Geneva 45 plus the Regional BO pass (2 x 270)

Thank you in advance for your advice.

    John

    Hi John,

thank you for writing. Usually, we prefer to have separate threads. Please open a new one the next time. Thank you! Also, I had to remove your email address for security reasons. If you would like to know more, please check the forum rules: http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/rules. Thanks for your understanding.

There are no senior discounts on Swiss rail passes for tourists. The same goes for most tickets and passes used by Swiss residents. It’s explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/discounts.

The rail pass is depending on your exact itinerary, not just where you would like to go but also what would you like to visit there. As most of the rail passes give you a discount on mountain transport (like cable cars) too. With the Swiss Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass) many museums are also for free or discounted. If you are unsure which pass to choose, you can download this spreadsheet. This will help you to calculate the costs and compare your options.

If you travel a lot one day between cities, have a look at the Saver Day Pass too: http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass. Usually, it is cheaper if you buy them earlier. Also, they can run out. You can check the prices here: http://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass/price

I hope this helps your planning,
    Take care,
    Ildiko

    Hello

    I hope all is well

My trip is approaching and am super excited as this will be my 1st time in Switzerland. I was briefly looking at the weather forecast for the different areas I will be going too and it seems like every single day it says Rain or thunderstorms. I am not sure if I should be sad as this is something out of our control. I am really hoping I will be able to do most of the stuff I provided in earlier posts. From my itinerary that I have provided before do you think its normal to do when it rains? if not what should I do? Should I bring any specific attire for this weather?

    Thanks

    Hi Atwani,

I understand your concern. Sometimes the weather forecast doesn’t give you 100% details so don’t be overly worried yet. The forecast is usually reliable 2-3 days ahead so keep checking closer to your travel dates. If rainy days are expected, it doesn’t always mean it will rain the whole day. Sometimes it’s just a drizzle or intermittent showers. If you have mountain excursions planned, I recommend checking out the mountain webcams first before your trip. Mountain transportations won’t stop running if it rains, only when there’s a severe weather warning.

A rain jacket or a waterproof jacket would be be useful to have on a rainy day. It might also be good idea to make alternative plans, just in case. Here are some rainy day activities you can do in the Jungfrau region:

    • explore the Glacier Canyon in Grindelwald
    • explore the Trummelbach Falls in Lauterbrunnen
    • boat trips on Lake Brienz or Lake Thun
    • explore the St Beatus Caves in Beatenbucht
    • trip to Oberhafen Castle in Thun
    • day trip to Thun or Bern

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hello

    I hope all is well.

I will put those recommendations in my itinerary incase the weather will be very bad.

I am arriving Zurich at 8 AM and we will be there for 2 nights. I am thinking to do a day trip on the 2nd day to possibly Rhine Falls if its not complicated. What do you think? Is it doable or should I stick around Zurich?

When purchasing the SWISS 8 Day pass it asks when will be my start date. If I input the 2nd day in Zurich so start June 25 will I be able to use it on July 2nd to get to the airport from Luzern?

Also am thinking of getting a phone line while am in Switzerland. Anything in particular I should look up for getting service there?

Do you have any must try restaurants, cafe, Bakeries to try while in Zurich, Obernese area, Interlaken, Luzern?

    Thanks again

    Hi Atwani,

yes, the Rhine Falls is totally doable from Zurich, here is how you can get there: http://www.myswissalps.com/rhinefalls/gettingthere. Do not miss the small boat ride when you are there (must be paid separately, not included in any of the rail passes, but it is worth it and as far as I remember it wasn’t too expensive).

If your Swiss Travel Pass starts on June 25, your last day will be July 2. So you can use your Swiss Travel Pass on the 2nd of July.
Regarding the Sim cards and the internet, please read this page: http://www.myswissalps.com/simcard.

For the restaurants and cafés, I always use Google Map mobile app and check the reviews there. From my experience, anything that has at least 20-30 reviews and the total review point is over 4,5 – should be a good place.

I wish you a wonderful holiday!
