    Hi Aldo1-

    Welcome to My Swiss Alps.

You will be visiting Switzerland, not Swiss. Swiss is an adjective in English.

On Day 2, continue your journey to Wengen to see the Jungfrau.

    See attached.

Maybe your route should be Zürich- Interlaken- Luzern- Zürich. Not sure. That might allow time to visit Männlichen or Wengen

Look at a map and the timetable.

When are you going?…weather and public transport depend on the dates.

You have a better chance to see the Jungfrau if you are near there for more than a fraction of one day.

    Hi Slowpoke,

Thank you for the quick reply.

I am visiting on 11-14 Oct with 2 friends.

Planning to stay in Luzern as our home base to avoid switching hotels too often.

Would you suggest better options considering the limited time.

Not considering jungfraujucht as it seems to take a full day at least.

    Thanks

    Hi Aldo1,

Luzern is a good place to stay for a couple of days. Lots to see, even if the weather is less favorable. You’ll find lots of suggestions for things to do in and around Lucerne on the Lucerne page. Jungfraujoch would indeed take a very long day to visit. Mount Titlis might be a good alternative.

    Hi Aldo1 –

There is lots to do in Luzern. Plenty around the lake, as well.

Arno gives a good perspective. It is true that the train ride from Luzern to Interlaken and onwards to the Jungfrau is quite scenic ( that is part of the Golden Pass Route) but it would be a long day. And, with only one day for it, you have a chance of cloudy wetaher obscuring the views.

An option if you wish to see the area without going up to the top of the Jungfrau is to ride as far as Wengen and look around, or, go up to Schilthorn from Mürren or Stechelberg. Still a long day, but not as time consuming as the journey up to Jungfraujoch ( note spelling.)

As Arno noted, Titlis is a good alternative, closer to Luzern.

Do you have any special interests?

Do you want to hike? Museums?

Lake boat ride on the lake?

    Hi Aldo1-

    Looks like a doable plan.

Depend on when you pass through Luzern main station, or Interlaken, stop at the tourist info office ( by track 1 in Luzern) or at the ticket window in Interlaken, or Lauterbrunnen to check the weather at Mürren and Schilthorn. You may not wish to to the Jungfrau region or go up once there, if all you can see is the inside of a cloud.

The weather can come in layers by altitude.

    Hi Aldo1 –

    Forgot to mention –

Once you reach Lauterbrunnen, you can go up to Schilthorn by two possible routes.

1.- From Lauterbrunnen, go up to Grütschapl via cableway and then take the train along the cliff edge to Mürren. Walk a few minutes to the cableway station and go up to Schilthorn.

2.- The other route is to take a bus from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg along the valley floor, which passes the Staubbach falls, and, from Stechelberg, take the cableways in linked stages all the way up, passing quickly through Mürren.

The route via Stechelberg is a bit faster. Depending on how much time you wish to spend on the valley floor, you could – at least in principle – pause and visit the Staubbach falls along that route. Might make a very long day.
