Hi! We are currently in Grindelwald and having a great time. However, it looks to be much warmer than we expected for several days, which is making us rethink a few activities. Any thoughts on good activities for warm days within 2 hours of Grindelwald? We have visited Jungfraujoch, rafted the Lutshine, and visited the Glacier Gorge thus far. Thanks, Kim.

Hi Kim,

I think this is the first time I’ve had someone change activities due to good weather! What is it you would like to do and what have you cancelled due to the warmer weather? I’m guessing you want to avoid hiking? Maybe spend some time in Trummelbach falls or a farther trip away at Aare Gorge?

Lucas gave you some good suggestions for “water related activities”. You can combine the Aare Gorge with a boat trip on Lake Brienz, a visit to the Giessbach Fall and the Reichenbach Fall. Plenty of water!

As Lucas noted, it is not clear if you want to avoid hiking.

Hi, everyone. Yes, we thought we had perhaps taken a few too many hikes for our teenagers liking, so we were trying to add a couple of other activities. I think we have settled on an early morning bike tour in Interlaken and the Aare and Grindelwald gorges.

We have thus far hiked First to Bachsee, the Eiger Trail, Mannlichen to KS to Wengen, and Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg to Murren to Grutschalp.

Still have two more hiking days left. Any recommendations? Easy to moderate is best. Fine with anything from 2 to 6 hours. Happy to travel via cable car, train or car. Would love some new alpine views. Thoughts?

Hi Kim-

Somewhat differnt from your oher hikes, and without the spectacular mountain scenery.

Likely to be quite warm on a sunny day in August. Not for everyone’s taste.

Hi, Slow poke! My husband and I are dying to hike Schynige Platte, but we feared it might be too tough for my 13 year-old daughter. Based on the other hikes we have done, do you think she could likely manage with an early start, lots of breaks, and a healthy supply of Swiss chocolate?

Or did you perhaps mean the loop at the top of Schynige Platte rather then the thru hike to First? Any thoughts on the North Face Trail near Murren? We were very pleasantly surprised by the Murren to Grutschalp walk, which we added on to a longer hike on a whim,

Hi Kim,

Yes, I’d rather recommend the loop at Schynige Platte. First to Schynige Platte would be too much. There’s a link in Slowpoke’s post now.

Hi,

If the budget allows, you could do a tandem paraglide from several different locations around Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen and Interlaken, assuming the hot weather isn’t being caused by a Foehn wind (no flying when the Foehn is blowing)

You can hire Trotti Bikes at Bort and do a long downhill run back to town, or maybe try the mountain cart.

There are the Beattenberg caves near Interlaken which are quite interesting and if you want to stay near the water, you can take a ferry trip around Lake Thun, or rent a canoe and do some exploring
