Hello,
I am planning to visit Jungfraujoch from Lucerne on 29th April 2018. I read a lot of posts about the travel from Lucerne but I am still very confused. I have a few queries and I would really appreciate if someone could help answer them:
- It shows that it will be snowing on that day. Is it still worth visiting the top?
- I have bought a swiss rail pass. So, what are the traveling options from Lucerne? And which of them should I reserve ahead of time?
- I am also planning to take a trip to Mount Titlis on the 28th of April. I understand that it is covered via swiss pass. Do I have to make any reservations for this? Also, is there a better option than the trip to Mount Titlis?

Not if it is snowing, as you won’t be able to see anything. However, the weather forecast is not reliable more than 24-48 hours in advance, so check again closer to the day.

So you first get a train from Luzern/Lucerne to Interlaken Ost, then proceed to Kleine Scheidegg and the Jungfraujoch via either Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen and Wengen.
With a Swiss Travel Pass, you will travel free as far as Grindelwald or Wengen, and get a 25% discount for the rest of the trip to the Jungfraujoch. You can buy your tickets for the trip between Grindelwald or Wengen and the Jungfraujoch (and return) at any staffed railway station in Switzerland. However, don’t buy them before you have confirmed the view on top is clear: you could do this at Interlaken Ost, Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald stations.
There is some construction work on a section of the railway line between Luzern and Interlaken until 29 April 2018. Replacement buses will be provided between Horw and Giswil. It will be well organised, and nothing to be concerned about.

You get free travel to Engelberg, then 50% discount on the gondola to Titlis from Engelberg. The route is described here:

Opinions will vary. All the mountains near Luzern offer wonderful views in clear weather, and none would disappoint. Read the information, look at the photos, and decide what’s right for you.

I will check the weather the day before and decide if it’s worth it :-). If it’s not snowing but just cloudy, would you still recommend it?
I am looking at the following option from for booking this:

Also, I understand that reservation is not possible. But should I at least book the tickets (Mt Titlis from Engelberg)? Or should I buy them from the train station once I am there?
The reason I am asking about the bookings is because I am not planning to get a lot of cash with me. I will have a Forex card and some cash. So I am planning to make the bookings online. Do the train stations accept cards for payment?

I would buy the tickets when you’re here so you’re sure the weather is okay. Train stations do accept credit cards.

The Viator option is for a fixed date as far as I know, so you’ll need to be sure you want to go up that day. If you buy through https://www.swissrailw ays.com/en/products/ex cursiontitlis you’ll get an open date ticket, even though you have to choose a first day it can be valid for. So that’s an option if you are sure you want to go up, but not sure about which day. Otherwise buying on the spot works as well, at the cable car station.

The key thing is whether you will be able to see anything when you get to the top. If you get up there and are surrounded by fog, you won’t even know you are on top of a mountain, and probably will have seen little of the terrain over which you have travelled to get there.
The webcams will show you what visibility is like on top, so let them guide you.
Sometimes the valley is engulfed in fog, but the peaks are clear, so you ascend through the fog and then emerge from it to be greeted by a beautiful clear blue sky and wonderful views of whatever is visible above the cloud deck. You won’t be able to see all the way down into the valley, but a view of the cloud deck with peaks sticking out of it can still be beautiful.
I have attached some photos taken on the gondolas ascending to Titlis in the fog, together with the views from Titlis, which that day happened to be above the layer of fog.
However, if the mountain peak is also engulfed by fog, there is no point in going up.
