MySwissAlps.com features ads, commercial and non-commercial Schilthorn or Jungfraujoch, which is recommended?

We will have just 2 nights in Lauterbrunnen and I think seeing both Schilthorn and Jungfraujoch isn’t really feasible. Should we choose just one and if so which would you recommend? Or are they both so special that neither should be missed?

Both trips are wonderful and very different from each other: different mode of transport, different views. If I had to choose one I would pick Jungfraujoch over Schilthorn. Please see the links for all details. For more variety you can consider this route instead of the same way up and down from Lauterbrunnen: Lauterbrunnen – Kleine Scheidegg – Jungfraujoch – Kleine Scheidegg – Grindelwald Grund (change to gondola) – Männlichen (change to cable car) – Wengen – Lauterbrunnen.
Thank you Arno. We will be coming to Lauterbrunnen from Zermatt, staying two nights and then heading to Lausanne. If we leave Zermatt early enough the first day and stay in Lauterbrunnen as long as possible the last day, that will give us two half days to tour the area as well I think.
If we use our full day to do Jungfraujoch, Is a half day enough time to visit Schilthorn (either the afternoon on the day we arrive in Lauterbrunnen, or the morning before we leave there)?

The routing suggested by Arno will not be available until late May/early June. In April and early May, winter has not left completely.

We’ll be there the last week of August. I’m sorry, but I can’t figure out how to get a time frame of how long the round trip from Lauterbrunnen to Schilthorn will be. Can we do it in a 1/2 day?

You can enter Lauterbrunnen to Schilthorn in the timetable Slowpoke gave you. It takes about an hour one way, so you can for sure do this in half a day.

I entered some sample times in the timetable for you and came up with this.
Bus at 9.05 from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg. Arrive 9.17. walk to Schilthornbahn – leave at 9.25 and reach at 9.57. (there are several stages and changes – just follow the signs and the crowd!) take time to admire and photograph the views, maybe have a coffee in the revolving restaurant. return 11.33 to Stechelberg – arrive 12.05, bus to Lauterbrunnen at 12.12 , arrive 12.25. These times are just examples – same at half-hourly intervals.

I’d recommend an hour. That’s one revolution of the restaurant. Fabulous 360 degree views.
Plan a morning trip as clouds often come in during the afternoon

Jungfraujoch is better. But my son had fun with the bond bobsled ride on Schilthorn.
