Hi, Good day.

My family (2 adults and 2 kids) will be travel to Switzerland in June 9 and staying for 8 days.

Day 1 – Arrive @ Zurich Airport and straight travel to Lucern, will do Mt Rigi in afternoon

Day 2 – Mt Pilatus and City tour

Day 3 – we will travel to Zermatt via Gotthard Panaroma Express to Andermatt and change to normal train to Zermatt expecting arrive in noon and will take Matterhorn trip in afternoon

Day 4 – Travel to 5 seenweg in the morning and in late afternoon will travel to Wengen

Day 5/6/7 – Junfraujoch/Montreux/Lauterbrunnen/Murren which i have yet to finalise the itenary.

Day 8 – We have a travel from Wengen to Zurich airport.

I have done several research and use timetable as recommended, but still have few things that i have not yet clear. I am comparing Swiss Pass ( 8 days) + Jungfraujoch tickets. which i can purchase with CHF 150 and kids CHF 100. This price is a return ticket right?

Another option i am looking at is Tell Pass (2 days) + Swiss Flexi Pass ( 3 days) + Jungfrau Travel Pass (3 days), to get this options. I would like to ask if Jungfrau Travel Pass Validity, if during the 3 days in Jungfrau Region i am using Jungfrau Travel pass is all transport(train/bus/cable car) are covered. Understand there is a fix price i have to pay to go up to Jungfraujoch. If i just get a kids ticket for Jungfrau Travel Pass, do they also need to pay for another ticket to Jungfraujoch? or kids will be covered if they are holding the Jungfrau Travel pass.

Your kids (< 16) will travel free with a Swiss Family Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issfamilycard) which is available for free when acquired in conjunction with a Swiss Travel Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass) or Swiss Half Fare Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard).

From your proposed itinerary I’d say the Swiss Travel Pass is your best bet. See http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity to understand what is covered. Mixing and matching passes for different regions will generally work out more expensive for relatively short times in each location.

Your Day 3 is impossible (and not worth bothering with in my opinion) for several reasons including:

• There is no way you can get the Gotthard Panorama Express and arrive in Zermatt at ‘noon’ as the GPE runs southbound once a day in mid afternoon
• You will have done a Lake Luzern boat trip to get to the Rigi
• Andermatt – Zermatt misses many of the ‘best’ bits of the so called Glacier Express route

I would go straight from Luzern to Zermatt and maximise your time there

Thank you rockoyster. Ya.. after i work out the JungFrau region, i also feel that Swiss Pass is my best option.

Should i purchase the Jungfraujoch tickets while i am purchasing the swiss pass? or i can do it on the day at the counter?

You should not buy Jungfraujoch tickets until you are in the area and are sure the weather is favourable.

To get to Zermatt (almost) by noon by that route you are going to need to leave Luzern at 06:18am. You are not on the Gotthard Panorama Express (http://www.myswissalps.com/go tthardpanoramaexpress) but on regular trains all the way.

Hello Ling,

Regarding the tickets to the Jungfraujoch it is always recommendable waiting until you’re closer to your travel date, as the weather does play a crucial role in the mountains.

The connection you mention is possible, however getting to Zermatt at around 3 pm and as Rockoyster says, on regular trains. Note that panoramic trains are labelled with PE in the timetable.
