Status of buffet breakfasts in Swiss hotels

Now that Switzerland is reopening its borders to vaccinated, my wife and I are planning a return this September (take advantage of STP discount!), and we were wondering about the status of the delicious hotel breakfast buffets. Are most hotels returning to the practice? I do see it is offered in numerous hotels, but is it as it was before, or will it be more along the lines of picking up a prepared bag of food? Just curious if folks had a general feel for how this hotel practice has evolved, or returned to the way it was before? As always many thanks for your feedback.

    Hi Micalj,

Hotel guests have been able to enjoy dine-in meals and buffet for a while now. As of recently, eating-in restrictions have also eased for the general public so I think most hotels are now able to offer services as per normal.

Thanks Annika and Luvmystang for your replies! Might I ask Luvmystang where she decided to stay in Zurich, its proximity to the train station, and how the buffet compares to other Hotels in Zurich? I know MySwissAlps.com has many great suggestions for hotels in Zurich, including Hotel Adler, which I know has had great reviews and recommendations. Currently comparing Hotel Walhalla, Sorell Hotel Rütli, Hotel Alexander, and Hotel Adler. They all are great as far as walking distance from train Station, and we prefer walking vs tram, so it comes down to the other amenities, with breakfast buffet and comfortable sleeping at the top of that list, and yes, price is a factor. Right now, a late September (after September 15) trip is being considered. Of course I understand if Luvmystang prefers not to answer due to privacy concerns. Thanks, and any comments are appreciated.

I stayed at Hotel Adler last time I was here and it’s a bit of a haul walking there with your suitcases from the HB. It’s also right in the middle of Alt Stadt and can get quite loud. It was not a good fit for me. This time I’m at Hotel Allegra Lodge in Kloten. A 5 minute bus ride from airport and right at a train station. I like it a lot so far.

    Hello

I booked central plaza (Zurich) for this coming oct. after reading some reviews and that it was walking distance from train station. If anyone has stayed there before I would appreciate some feedback on this hotel. Amenities restaurant etc.

    thanks

I read one of the recent posts on the forum that mentioned an “STP” discount. Can someone share with me what that is?

STP refers to the Swiss Travel Pass, and it is currently discounted at 25%. For info on that see:

Hopefully that helps. When we travel in Switzerland, we have found it to be very convenient, clean, on time, and simply the best way to travel. Just my opinion!
