We are thinking of stopping off at Grand Hotel Giessbach for lunch whilst on a boat ride around Lake Brienz. We would not want a full four course meal, however. But we would like more than just coffee and cake. Do they serve lighter lunches (sandwiches, sausages, salads, etc.) on the Terrace? I have not been able to find any menus for it.

You can contact the hotel direct at http://www.giessbach.ch/en/co ntact.html

They have a Terrace Restaurant which is a bit more casual.

Absolutely they serve smaller meals. We love stopping there for lunch and drinks and have done so four or five times. We have always been served outside on the patio and not in the dining room…very relaxing. Take time to visit the falls. There is a small charge for the very old funicular that takes you from the boat dock to the hotel if you are not staying there and prefer not to hike up.

Thank you! That is exactly what I wanted to know. Do you usually arrive by boat? If so, which direction do you come from?

Also, do you need reservations for lunch on the terrace?

    Hi Alethea,

The boats stops at a few places on the lake, the main ones being Interlaken Ost and Briez (both near the train station). More details are here: http://www.myswissalps.com/bo atlakebrienz.

I wouldn’t expect lunch reservations to be required.

We have never had reservations and usually arrive by boat At times it has been very busy. We have also hiked to Giessbach fom Iseltwald. This is a beautiful, mostly flat, walk along the lake. You can reach Iseltwald from Interlaken Ost by either bus or boat.

    Hello there,

No reservation required for terrace dining, we were there last July and had a lovely chicken salad. Delicious breads and the best coffee. The views are wonderful as is a walk up to the falls, walking behind the waterful!

We came on the boat from Interlaken ost and went up on the funicular railway but walked down to catch the boat. You will always remember this trip….very special! Enjoy!!
