How to find a cheap hotel in Switzerland: my 6 tips

  1. Check the list below, where I show you well-rated budget hotels in top locations throughout the country.
  2. Check the hotels I recommend for Switzerland’s popular towns and set the price filter to “Low”.
  3. Look into Swiss youth hostels. They’re of good quality and offer lodging in dormitories, which is the cheapest way to spend the night.
  4. Book a hotel without breakfast, lunch and/or dinner, unless it’s a great deal. Do your own groceries instead and have simple but delicious Swiss meals.
  5. Visit in low season. Swiss hotels are cheapest in March-April and October-November.
  6. Don’t stay in famous Swiss tourist resorts, but in a nearby town that’s less expensive. Just some examples: Wilderswil, Bönigen and Ringgenberg instead of Interlaken. Or Samedan, Celerina, Bever and Zuoz instead of St. Moritz. I mention alternatives on each of our town hotel pages.

What does a budget hotel in Switzerland cost?

The rates of cheap Swiss hotels in popular towns range from CHF 80 to CHF 150 per night and per room. This mostly includes breakfast, and sometimes tourist tax.

Prices can be a bit lower for very basic lodging in less-visited locations. The exact price depends on the hotel, room type, and travel dates.

Traveling, hiking and photographing in the Swiss Alps are my absolute favorite activities.
