Where to stay in Lugano
Close to the rail station
A hotel close to the rail station is ideal for your day trips, both within and away from the city.
The train station is located a bit higher than the lake and most of the old town center. There’s a frequent funicular connecting the station and the old town. If you book a hotel within walking distance from the funicular station “Lugano Città (foniculare)”, you’ll still reach the rail station within minutes.
A few hotels are just west of the rail station. This isn’t the old town, but it’s the green area of the Tassino park.
On the lake
Even though Lugano is directly on the lake, there are only a few hotels directly on the lake. Look for the streets “Via Nassa” and “Riva Vincenzo Vela” south-west of the train station and town center, and for the “Viale Castagnola” east of it.
In Paradiso
Paradiso is a district just south of Lugano’s center. It’s a hilly area on the foot of Monte San Salvatore. Many hotels on these slopes guarantee a panoramic lake view.
A train trip between the station “Lugano Paradiso” and the main train station takes about 5 minutes. But many hotels are located higher than the rail station of Lugano Paradiso, so take additional traveling time into account.
In Cassarate and Castagnola
Cassarate and Castagnola are districts on the slopes of Monte Brè. Wonderful mountain views are available here too. A bus ride from Cassarate to the main station takes just over 20 minutes.
