Differences between 1st & 2nd class in Swiss train
Tanima is planning a trip to Switzerland with two senior citizens, a toddler, and two adults. She wants to know if First Class or Second Class train travel would be better for their needs, focusing on seating arrangements, comfort, and available facilities. Since May is low season, seating shouldn’t be too crowded, making Second Class a feasible option.
- First Class offers more legroom and is less crowded, which may be beneficial for comfort, but Second Class is also quite comfortable with adequate seating options.
- For families, some Second Class trains have special carriages with play areas for children.
- Food and toilet facilities are available in both classes, and most trains provide sufficient luggage storage.
- If traveling in May, expect lighter crowds, increasing the likelihood of sitting together in Second Class.

Hi,
I am keen to understand what are the key differences between the First Class and Second Class travel in the Rail.
We are travelling with 2 senior citizens, 1 toddler and two adults so ideally
need the seats to be together , comfortable,
food and toilet available
enough luggage storage
Would First class be better placed in meeting these or Second class would have the above facilities anyway?
Is First Class available in all trains?
Thanks
Tanima
