How to create a personal timetable on the SBB website?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Ian Pooley is trying to create personal timetables on the SBB website as he did during a previous visit to Switzerland. He finds the current website functionality confusing and is looking for help to generate detailed timetables for specific routes for an entire day. He wants to simplify his planning for an upcoming trip.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider using the SBB Mobile App to easily save and access your planned journeys.
  • To generate a PDF timetable for your route on the SBB website, select your connection, then click on the three dots next to Tickets and choose to print or save it as a PDF.
  • If you want specific routes or types of trains, be sure to specify your preferences in the search options to get the best results.

How do I create personal timetables on the SBB website? Two years ago I visited Switzerland & created numerous personal timetables (example attached) by selecting the start/end points, date range & time range & these could be downloaded as a pdf to a single A4 page & they proved to be very useful. Now when I go on the SBB website, though it has a personal timetable section it doesn’t seem to create one, it just gives a short list & details of available trains for a specific date & time  & I can’t see how to create a timetable for a specific route for an entire day for instance. Am I doing something wrong?

    Hi Ian pooley,

It might be easier to use the SBB Mobile App to plan your rail journeys. With the mobile app, you can save all your planned journeys and retrieve them on demand.

If you prefer to use the SBB website, you can just print out/ download the PDF version of your connection(s). I am attaching a few pics and instruction below for easy reference. Hope this helps.

    1. Choose a connection. Click on the 3 dots next to Tickets from CHFXX.
    2. Choose print or sign-in and save journey.
    3. If you choose print, save it as a PDF.

You can find useful information on how to use the Swiss timetable here: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/

Thanks. I have created several pdf copies, however they don’t give details of connections. I also used the ‘personal timetable’ section of the SBB website which does appear to give connection details, however it is incorrect. See attachments. The Interlaken west – Gornergrat timetable is correct but the screenshot of the personal timetable is not. It shows an 8:11 from Interlaken which does not exist, but there is an 8:05. There is also a 7:34 which is not showing. Similarly the 9:05 from Spiez does not exist. Any idea what is going on, or is the personal timetable no longer functioning but has not been taken down?

    Hi Ian_pooley,

If researching via the SBB website, it generally switches to the most direct route for your journey unless you request that you’d like it to follow another route by keying in a preferred station, using “via”.  Similarly, if you choose the timetable to show only to travel using certain types of trains, for example panoramic trains.  (Your third listing in the screenshot is the route via the GoldenPass Express panoramic train).  For these reasons you may not be able to view all routes.

It does seem like the website timetable has been reduced to only show departure/arrival times and does not show the full details of a journey unless you click on each departure individually to display the breakdown of changes, if applicable.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
