Linking Swiss Travel Pass to SBB Mobile App

Short summary – read this first

Diane is trying to link her newly purchased 15-day Swiss Travel Pass to the SBB Mobile App. She is confused about the required 'customer number' and 'postcode' and wants to know if she can add both her and her husband's passes to one app for a Golden Pass reservation. It's great to clarify that there are easier ways to use the pass without the app.

Key takeaways:
  • You don't need to link the Swiss Travel Pass to the SBB app; it's sufficient to keep it as a PDF on your phone.
  • For Golden Pass reservations, you can use your Swiss Travel Pass, but note that reservations are optional and not mandatory.

Hi- I’m having difficulty linking my newly purchased 15-day Swiss Travel Pass to the SBB Mobile App. They ask for “customer number” and “postcode”. I don’t see any customer number on my pass. I only see “order number”. And by “postcode”, do they mean the zip code of my billing address?

When I entered the order number and my billing zip code, it didn’t work.

Also, can I put my pass and my husband’s on my mobile app so i can make a Golden Pass reservation for the two of us? Or do we each need to use our own app?

    Thanks so much!!

    Diane

    Hi Diane,

There’s no need to link the Swiss Travel Pass to the SBB app. You can add the Swiss Travel Pass to your e-wallet and present this for inspection when requested. But even that is not need as it is a PDF document that can be stored on your phone without requiring any app or wallet. You can find more details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/howtouse

Options to book seats on the Golden Pass are available here: http://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass/tickets

    Regards,

Thanks. I bought it through the Switzerland Travel Center using the link on My Swiss Alps: shop.switzerlandtravelcentre.com/#/en/product/swissPass.

I thought this was the official site, and not a reseller but perhaps I was mistaken.

    Hi Diane,

That is an official site – the tourist web shop of the SBB, Swiss Federal Railways. Although any site listed on http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/price is fine to purchase from. They all sell they exact same passes.

You can’t link Swiss Travel Passes to the SBB app, and there is no need to either. Note that the app is geared to Swiss citizens primarily and may refer to “SwissPass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/swisspass), which might be a little confusing. It has nothing to do with Swiss Travel Passes for tourists. Your Swiss Travel Pass is ready to use as soon as you’ve received it. There’s nothing else you need to do.

You don’t need to buy tickets for the majority of your trips, so you only need to use the app to look up train schedules. You’ll probably need some discounted mountain tickets, but you don’t need the SBB app for that either. The “How to use” page Anna mentioned explains it all.

GoldenPass reservations are not linked to your Swiss Travel Pass either. It’s a separate “product”, to be combined with any pass or ticket that covers the ride. In your case it will be the Swiss Travel Pass. Note that the reservations are optional, not mandatory: http://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass/tickets.

    Happy travels!
