Passenger Locator Form + Swiss Covid Certificate

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Marivic is flying from Dubai to Zurich on November 21 for a stay until November 30. She is planning to take the Bernina Express on November 29 and needs clarity on whether she must fill out a new Passenger Locator Form for this trip and details about obtaining a Swiss Covid Certificate.

Key takeaways:
  • Complete the Digital Passenger Locator Form before arriving in Switzerland, and make sure to confirm if you need a new one for the Bernina Express.
  • You can apply for the Swiss Covid Certificate through cantonal websites until a central system is live, and ensure your foreign vaccination card is valid during your stay.
  • The Swiss Covid Certificate can be shown as a print-out or on your mobile device throughout Switzerland.

    Dear Team,

We are flying from Dubai on November 21 and arriving Zurich on the same day.

As tourists, we are required to fill up the passenger locator form. Our stay in Switzerland would be from November 21-30.

On November 29, we are planning to do the Bernina Express (return). Do we need to fill up a new Passenger Locator Form? And does this need to be printed out?

Regarding the Swiss Covid Certificate, I have read this on your topic regarding Covid Certificate for non-residents of Switzerland –

This is how to obtain a certificate (relevant for people that don’t live in Switzerland or the EU):

A system will be set up for for vaccinated travelers to obtain a Swiss COVID-certificate digitally before departure. Costs are CHF 30. The system should be operational by October 11. There will be one federal website listing cantonal contact points.

Does this mean there is no way at the moment that I could apply for the Swiss Covid Certificate?

    Thank you so much!

    Hi Marivic,

A link to the form can be found under #1 at http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/does-the-corona-virus-affect-trips-to-switzerland.

Based on information from the Rhaetian Railway (which operates the Bernina Express train), passengers travelling to Tirano are required to complete a Digital Passenger Locator Form. You can find more information from the website: http://www.rhb.ch/en/panoramic-trains/bernina-express#c36206

For information on the Bernina Express panoramic train, including tickets and route details, please use this link: http://www.myswissalps.com/berninaexpress

About the Swiss Covid certificate for fully-vaccinated tourists: A central online system for tourists to apply for a Swiss Covid certificate will only be available in late October, and until then you foreign vaccination card is valid. If you wish to obtain a Swiss Covid certificate during this transitional phase, you could try the cantonal websites listed on this under #7 at http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/does-the-corona-virus-affect-trips-to-switzerland. However it could take a few days for the cantons to process your application. You can find more useful links and information about the Swiss COVID-certificate in the same thread (the first post is regularly updated).

Feel free to post again if you need further clarification.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hi Anna,

    1. I tried applying for Swiss Covid Certificate in Lucerne’s website, please see attached, is this the Swiss Covid certificate?

If yes, is this valid during my stay from November 21-30 and wherever I stay in Switzerland? Will be in Zurich, Lucerne, Bern, Basel, and Chur.

    2. And also, for the Digital Passenger Locator Form that my son & I need to complete before entering Switzerland, can we use the same link to complete the DPLForm for Bernina Express?

    Hi Marivic!

    1. Yes, this looks perfect. The certificate will be valid during your stay throughout Switzerland. You can show it either as a print-out or on your mobile device when asked for.

    2. As for the Passenger Locator Form: you can use the link provided under #1 at http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/does-the-corona-virus-affect-trips-to-switzerland. I’m not sure if you’d need to fill out a new form when re-entering Switzerland after such a short break in Tirano only. In order to verify, I recommend that you contact the Rhaetion Railways: http://www.rhb.ch/en/service-souvenirs/contact.

You will need an additional entry from for Italy if you travel to Tirano. A link to the Italian Passenger Locator Form can be found here: http://www.passenger-locator-form.com/it-italy-application.

If you want to simplify things, you can choose not to travel all the way to Tirano, but only as far as Campocologno. That way you won’t enter Italy and re-enter Switzerland.
