Play area if travelling with kids in Swiss trains?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Suhki is looking for information on which Swiss trains have play areas for children. They found some information on the SBB website but want confirmation on how to identify these trains on their journey. This is especially useful for planning a family trip.

Key takeaways:
  • Look for trains marked with 'FA' on the Swiss rail timetable to find family coaches with play areas.
  • The 'FZ' designation means a family area, but does not have a play zone.
  • Use the official Swiss timetable PDFs for detailed information on train routes with family coaches.

    Hi Suhki,

All InterCity (IC) double-deck trains are equipped with a jungle style family coach if marked “FA”

When searching for your train connection on the Swiss railways timetable, look for FA on the legend.

FZ means family area but no play zone.

See attached for a legend example.

It would be helpful to know any particular route you are thinking of travelling on – the journey would need to be more than a short hop to make it worthwhile using the family area.

The PDFs of the official Swiss timetable clearly show trains with family play areas, the letters ‘FA’ indicate a coach with this is included in the train.

The link works now. The letter “f” was missing at the end.
