Buy the Swiss Travel Pass from these shops
Here’s my list of favorite shops, from which I buy myself. They’re trustworthy, and I know most of the owners personally.
- www.swissrailways.com – Switzerland Travel Centre, the official SBB tourist webshop (Swiss Federal Railways). Easy, safe, and an excellent helpdesk. You can pay in CHF (Swiss francs), EUR, GBP, or USD. They also sell cable car tickets.
- www.happyrail.com – a very good option if you’d like to pay in your home currency (30 currencies available!), or if you need train tickets for other countries too.
- www.getyourguide.com – another good choice if you want to pay in your home currency (35 currencies available!), or if you also want to buy tickets for cable cars and other activities.
Why buy from Switzerland Travel Centre?
- It’s the official SBB tourist webshop (Swiss Federal Railways).
- The passes arrive by e-mail in 5 minutes, and they’re ready to use on your phone.
- The helpdesk is easy to reach.
- Safe, no extra fees, and no problems with international credit cards.
- You’ll automatically receive the Swiss Family Card for children.
What if I want to buy elsewhere?
I didn’t list all the shops that sell Swiss Travel Passes. There are a lot!
If you want to buy elsewhere, please be safe and check:
- if the shop is listed on our longer list of trusted purchase options.
- if the prices are similar to the official shop.
- if you can contact the shop, in case you need to cancel, made a mistake while ordering, or have other questions.

Swiss Travel Pass FAQs before you buy
-
What’s the official webshop for the Swiss Travel Pass?
The SBB tourist webshop is owned by the Swiss Federal Railways. There are many other legitimate shops too.
-
Can I get a discount on the Swiss Travel Pass?
Children up to 15 travel for free, and people up to 24 get a discount. There is no senior discount. Groups can get a discount here.
Additional promotions are rare. If there is one, you’ll find it here. Or, subscribe to the MySwissAlps newsletter and we’ll e-mail you when there is a discount code or other promotion.
-
Is it cheaper to buy the Swiss Travel Pass in advance?
No, there are no lower rates for buying early.
-
Is the Swiss Travel Pass Youth different from the Swiss Travel Pass for adults?
The Swiss Travel Pass Youth is exactly the same as the Swiss Travel Pass. The only difference is the lower price: the Swiss Travel Pass Youth is a discounted pass for anyone from 16 up to and including 24 years.
-
Can I upgrade my 2nd class Swiss Travel Pass to 1st class?
No, you would have to cancel your 2nd class pass and buy a new pass.
If you have a 2nd class pass, you can still choose to travel in 1st class on occasional trips. You can buy an upgrade ticket. It costs half of the difference between the 2nd and 1st class fare for the route you wish to travel.
-
Are Swiss Travel Pass prices the same everywhere?
Always compare prices with the official shop! Pass prices should be roughly the same. If the price isn’t shown in Swiss francs (CHF), exchange rates may cause small differences. Some shops might also add a service fee.
Do you want the cheapest option? Buy from the official shop, pay in Swiss francs, and make sure your bank applies the real exchange rate and not an inflated one (more about that here).
-
Do I get the same pass wherever I buy?
Yes, if you buy from a legitimate shop, such as the shops on this page. They all sell the exact same Swiss Travel Pass. However, if you buy at a train station, you will get the paper version of the pass instead of the digital one. It’s best to avoid that because a paper pass can’t be replaced if lost.
-
Can I buy the Swiss Travel Pass on arrival in Switzerland?
You can! But I recommend doing it online via the official shop. You’ll receive your passes via e-mail in minutes.
Avoid buying at the station if you can. You’d need to go to a staffed ticket counter during opening hours and bring the passports of all travelers. It takes time to get this done, especially at a busy station like the airport or in major cities like Zurich. You’ll receive paper passes. There is no replacement if you lose or damage them.
It’s best to buy online before you leave. That way, you can hop on your first train right after you arrive. No waiting, and no risk of losing your passes.
-
Can I cancel the Swiss Travel Pass and get a refund?
Yes, almost all webshops allow you to cancel before the first travel day. You will get a refund. There are always some costs involved: either when you cancel, or you pay a fee when you buy, which allows you to cancel for free.
To prevent costs, you can buy your pass a few days before your trip, and minimize your chances of having to cancel.
-
When is the next Swiss Travel Pass promotion?
If there is a promotion now, you will find it on this page. Discounts on the Swiss Travel Pass are rare. If there is one, it does not always apply to all variants of the pass, but only to 1st class, or only to 4-day passes, for example.
Subscribe to the MySwissAlps newsletter to be notified of new discount codes or promotions.
-
Do I need to activate my Swiss Travel Pass, or add it to the SBB app or an e-wallet?
No, that’s not necessary. Your digital Swiss Travel Pass is a PDF that’s ready to use. Simply store it on your phone, that’s all. Learn all the details about how your pass works here.
