I intend to get a swiss half fare card & family card from raileurope , can I purchase online ticket via sbb.ch to enjoy to 50% disc ? A check on sbb online ticket shows that the reductions only apply to “half fare travel card ” & other GA card. I suppose they are not the same as Swiss half fare card. Does it mean Swiss half fare card & family card are not to be used for online purchase ?

If so what do you suggest to get ticket from milan to Zermatt. Also , when selecting the destination like Zermatt , do we choose Zermatt or Zermatt bahnhof , similarly , Brig or Brig bahnhof ? Thank you.

    Hi Vicky,

If you buy through http://www.raileurope.com.sg/ pass/swiss-half-fare-card or any other retailer, you can still buy discounted tickets wherever and whenever you want. Although in your case it’s an international trip and it’s recommended to buy in advance like you already planned, as the ticket includes a seat reservation. For a trip from Italy you can buy through the SBB site and select the half fare travel card. You should not select the GA, as that’s something different. Whether you select the town name or town name + “bahnhof” (station) does not matter.
